Kathy Bates double nom is awesome. Matt Dillon snub for "There's Something About Mary" sucks. Dillon was a full 6 points away from getting in. Supporting actor was easily the least competitive category.

My favorite fun fact is that Small Soldiers and Perfect Blue were both gonna get an editing nomination until the last ballot. I haven't seen SS, but it looks like a lot of fun and not the category I would have expected it to do so well in.

we just had to let AHX get in there huh. WE WERE SO CLOSE some very cool nods. Especially love the supporting lineups (minus the Ricci snub for Buffalo). Happy Primary Colors got in there for Bates (exceptional perf) and the screenplay, but wish Thompson and Thornton had been more in play. A little too much Dark City for my taste and not enough Pleasantville (where's the love for Randy Newman??) and snubbing Elizabeth for prod. design is all kinds of wackadoodle, but all in all a pretty handsome group! Thanks, martin! Now time to go vote Truman Show for everything

Which performance was the one that was split between lead and supporting? Ian McKellen in Apt Pupil, and he didn't appear on any ballots after I said that so he wound up being well outside.

I wish that The Prince of Egypt had shown in more than just the music categories, but alas. And I kind of assumed Perfect Blue would have more fans here. Still, solid lineups overall. Nice work continuing this series.

What a random sole nomination for Tsai Ming liang's The Hole but I love it he gets my vote just for that. For some reason I thought Dylan Baker was the one performance splitting votes, totally forgot about Apt Pupil..... Nice to see Last Days of Disco, Autumn Tale and High Art represented even though lead actress could've been filled just with performances of those movies (and a few non-english language unseen movies like Dreamlife of Angels, etc..) still, it is the strongest acting category. I might have to keep looking for The General in some real dark places because all my reliable sources were not successful. Are we sure that's an actual movie ?
