Dear atheist heathens I dunno about "the world" and organized "religion" - I'm a simple man, ok - geesh - but I can tell you pacinoyes wouldn't be a better person without his belief in God - on the contrary I'd be impossible to deal with tbh.........and I say this with no malice but when you die you want to go out with the worldview of Mother Teresa and not Chris Hitchens....and I liked Chris Hitchens also what would Martin Scorsese say? Pffft.....the movie world would be much worse without religion.....

Speaking as an organized-religion-hater-atheist-heathen, a world without religion doesn't make sense. Most people simply aren't wired to experience the world without it, and don't have either the inclination or the time to ask what the universe looks without a God, supernatural entities or simply a belief system that was already chewed up for them. Trying to ban them makes zero sense, just like force people to believe in one.

I used to think so but shitty people are always going to find a justification for being shitty.

Should we live in a world without religion? No.
Should we live in a world where religion is presented as an option, and it isn’t pressed on us in invasive, conforming ways? Yes
As a fellow atheist heathen, I feel that all of the religions can co-exist with each other. If someone’s beliefs help them, and it makes them happy, that’s great. I find religion fascinating, I have no problem with it. What I *do* have a problem with is when that religion is warped by extremists to alienate people away, fit within their narrowly defined notions of what IS and ISN’T acceptable behavior, and where those core beliefs are pressed on people who don’t necessarily share those same views.
In short, we can’t ALL be right, but one of us doesn’t have ALL the answers.

Feel like this one’s maybe more appropriate for the politics board? Anyhow…
Would the world be better without religion? Absolutely not. Religion on its own has been a net good for humanity. Organized religion on the other hand has had such a negative impact on history for thousands of years. I hate organized religion as much as I hate government. For all intents and purposes organized religion is government for religion. To use the Catholic Church as an example, the pope would be the president, bishops and cardinals the senators and congressmen, and priests would be the other unelected bureaucrats or maybe mayors, and they all have a thing for kids

Oh honey, Mon Dieu! These French girls and their smelly Gauloises and existential crisises... 'Dieu est mort : n'entendons pas par là qu'il n'existe pas, ni même qu'il n'existe plus'... but there's still Jean Dujardin!
