Going to roll the dice on this one. I suspect we will have a divided opinion on this one. Everything looks great critical-wise: 95% Tomatometer score. 84/100 Broadcast Film Critics. I am not saying it is a best picture contender, but could we see this movie getting any Oscar nominations or Guild nominations?

No. But it has nothing to do with it being a gay romance.

With 95% on the tomatometer it does seem like a screenplay nod is an outside possibility if the audience response is enthusiastic too, and certainly globe nods for best comedy and Eichner for actor. No. But it has nothing to do with it being a gay romance. That said, this does look like your standard raunchy Apatow rom com only with gay people this time. I don't entirely trust reviews for it either these days because you know any prominent critic who panned it would get roasted on social media.

I'm guessing not but who knows. Both Borats got screenplay nods and one got a nom for Maria Bakalova's improv, Bridesmaids got in for McCarthy and screenplay, and The Big Sick got in for screenplay so Bros has some precedent on its side.
also, and this really can't be stated enough... I'm pretty sure no one last fall even thought CODA was getting nominated for BP let alone being a frontrunner. The 2022 race has barely started and it's open season out there.

Never thought it was going to win.
Trainwreck, Mean Girls, 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Book Smart, and The Hangover got WGA nominations. Crazy Rich Asians got a SAG Ensemble nomination. The Hangover won the ACE award. Palm Springs was nominated for the WGA and won the ACE over Promising Young Woman. And lets not forget about The Bird Cage.

It actually looks good. I think guild friendly but o.screenplay is brutal this year. In a weak year it would be possible.

I saw it last night and while I liked it, I don’t think it cracks any Oscar noms. Definitely in play for Golden Globes.
