What do you guys think of its Oscar chances?
Everything looks great critical wise. 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. 88/100 score from the Broadcast Film Critics Association. Critics seem to love the performances from Viola Davis and newcomer Thuso Mbedu, and the action sequences.
The only negative seems to be the 5.8/10 IMDB rating, but I suspect it has to do with racism more than anything. The Rotten Tomato audience score is 99%.
Are we thinking any of these are possible?
Director - Gina Prince-Bythewood
Actress - Viola Davis
Supporting Actress - Thuso Mbedu
Original Screenplay - Dana Stevens and Maria Bello (Yeah, The Cooler actress)

I think it's very possible. Wasn't betting on it but people are really enjoying it. I think Davis and some techs seem likeliest. BP is possible but there are going to be so many blockbuster crowdpleasers in the BP race this year that it's just very competitive, and I'm less confident in this than Black Panther and Top Gun. And I still think Elvis has a shot there too.

Eh, not sure. The film itself I'd say is far more mixed than the reviews or the review bombs suggest. It's more middling overall, with a lot of inconsistent elements. The best parts I'd say are the costumes and the trio of Davis, Mbedu and Lynch, although all three aren't in overly Oscary roles. So maybe costumes and Davis. Although I think the latter might be one who gets SAG but then gets left off later. It will be helped if it has legs with the boxoffice, which its A+ cinemascore suggests that it might.

Best Picture Best Actress Best Costume Design
editing, production design, makeup, original song and director are all on the table too. Prince-Bythewood I could see getting the globe nod and missing at the Oscars (esp. with Cameron coming on so strong) but she's going to be in the conversation.
