No thread?
Not seeing Cate The Great sweating her 3rd win but what do I know .......the mimicry at least is in full middle-brow effect........

Looks exactly what I thought it would be, cranked through the Anthony McCarten generator. Ackie looks good, though.

Not dying to watch this (it looks like a very by the numbers biopic, which is Andrew McCartten's stock in trade and also AMPAS catnip), but Ackie looks good. She's an obvious contender in Best Actress, but as with anything, reviews may determine if she can contender for the win. This seems safe and middlebrow enough to contend. She looks like someone the Golden Globes might award these days.

here I go, overreacting to another trailer McCarten's involvement aside (and that has to count for something) this really doesn't look like a major player at all. Looks more akin to last year's Respect which went nowhere and wasn't good at all. What gave Andra Day a major headstart with Billie Holliday was the trademark gravelly voice which she mimicked to perfection and that she could milk in between all of those singing moments so there never was a moment her performance wasn't *on*. Houston's music is fantastic and maybe Ackie's singing is enough to get her in there, but I don't know... Hudson's wasn't, and it's looking crowded out there.

I was waning on her chances already, trailer does nothing to change that.

Whitney was supernatural. No actress could portray her because she was not just a great voice. She was one of the most beautiful women on planet Earth. And the actress isnt as pretty as Whitney. Her story is sad. Her own daughter and heiress only survived Her a couple of years. And then all Her fortune have gone to Bobby Brown. Whitney most deadly sin.
All ends worse. At least Elvis fortune had a happy ending, and the king has several grandchildren. But even that was negleted to Whitney.

I saw an early screening Pretty standard biopic but I think general audiences are going to dig it. Crowd-pleaser that is very similar to Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis (with less visual flare). People have mentioned Respect but that came out in August. This has a prime Christmas release and has a chance to do well at the box office. I'm definitely putting Ackie in the top 5 until we see how things play out.
