Here's the Venice Film Festival Winner vs. Oscar nomination for Best Actress:
2021 - Penelope Cruz, Parallel Mothers (Nominated) 2020 - Vanessa Kirby, Pieces of a Woman (Nominated) 2019 - Ariane Ascaride, Gloria Mundi (Not Nominated) 2018 - Olivia Colman, The Favourite (Winner) 2017 - Charlotte Rampling, Hannah (Not Nominated) 2016 - Emma Stone, La La Land (Winner)
4/6 winners were nominated for an Oscar. Neither Gloria Mundi and Hannah got a real U.S release. Cate Blanchett just won best actress at the Venice Film Festival for Tar. Is she going to get a Best Actress nomination? Discuss.

At this point, her campaign would have to deliberately shoot itself in the foot and even then, I don't think it would matter.
One of the most respected actresses alive (not debating that), with a performance with those raves and with a film that seems much more accessible than at first blush, with a solid studio behind her. The only way I see her missing is if she gets Ben Affleck'd, where everyone assumes she's in and then they throw votes to other people and she misses out that way.
Is she winning? Right now I'd say it's too early to tell. I'd say winning the Volpi is a nice feather in her cap, but I think Colin Farrell benefits from his win more than she does from hers.

I think there’s a clear path to a win that only Margot Robbie can block.

I think she wins if they embrace the movie. The two people who won were in bp nod.

You can argue Cate Blanchett is the most honored actor - male or female - of the last 25 years in the English language - so she's obviously the betting favorite this year.
I could see her losing to a tour de force in a popular film - but whoever that is - she has not shown herself yet as a legit rival to Blanchett - and has lots of catching up to do .....it's not just the Volpi - it's the language used in the reviews for Blanchett - which is stamping this as her "best".......not "some" people saying that - but an overwhelming majority.
She's gonna have a lot of awards for precursor wins for this .....so whoever is #2 .......starts at a sizeable disadvantage against her in this role ....when this opens and there's all that talk about "it was written specifically for her".......and "this movie wouldn't exist if she didn't play it" ....it takes on a mythic thing all its own then....
