The Alaska system vote is weird. Any way, they will repeat the election on November.-

i saw that headline this morning and went "holy shit" Certainly the ranked choice system contributed to it but it's also persistent with a pattern of dems consistently overperforming again and again in the wake of Dobbs, across the country. By the way, off-topic for this thread but young women have been registering to vote like crazy in PA. Maybe polling error is gonna favor dems for once.

The Alaska system vote is weird. Any way, they will repeat the election on November.- How is it weird? It is the same system used to pick Best Picture at the Oscars and PGA awards. If you want to win, you need to get at least 50% of the vote. Sounds pretty reasonable.
Palin lost because she's damaged goods. They would rather go for a "Demoncrat".
Blaming the loss on a the preferential ballot system sounds like a Fox News argument.

It's weird because isn't the common system way for elections.- On thing is counting 5000 ballots in that way and another totally different is counting a million of votes. Specially when many are mail votes.- It's a headache!!! It's chepear and easier making a seccond row.-

It is far from "weird". It is the new trend happening.
Second choice only matters if nobody gets more 50% of the vote.
You do realize that vote counting is done primarily through electronics, right?

I can understand in a Electronic system. But in mail. I guess is a little scary. For the possible fraud. Its less who votes, and more who count votes. I hope un the mail ballot there is the finger print. And someone who is technically capacitated to constrate them.

It was a pretty close race - some people might have misunderstood the ballot - it was the first time Alaska was using it.......see link below for an explanation of it....... There's an election in 60+ days with the same candidates anyway - if Palin wins (doubt it, but maybe) then that would suggest "Yes" people misunderstood in August - and if she doesn't..... they didn't misunderstand it .....and she loses twice. I think she'll lose twice - we'll see. That Palin bitch should be lucky I don't have her "swatted" and possibly murdered because I find her politics disagreeable and that's morally justifiable and shit. Sarcasm. www.elections.alaska.gov/RCV.php

You need to stop saying “sounds like a Fox News/right wing talking point/argument” to discredit other people’s opinions, especially when you already got the job done by correctly pointing out that Palin lost because she’s damaged goods. “Sounds like a Fox News argument” is not a counter argument nor is it grounds to immediately invalidate someone’s opinion. Just because someone has a differing opinion doesn’t mean they got it from Fox News or a similar right wing source

People have been voting by mail since the Civil War. Not sure what you're paranoid about. There is absolutely no evidence of massive voter fraud through mail in voting. But regardless, it's irrelevant when it comes to Ranked/Preferential Balloting. The ballot simply asks you to rank the candidates. The machine still calculates the totals.

There's no blame by the fact she's damaged goods. The poster seems to be implying that it was that those "weird preferential ballots" that caused the Palin's loss.

I have no idea how the mail votes works in U.S. So my simple question is finger print is required? Are you a US citizen and a registered voter? No, but I work on elections. Thats my job. I dont trust on mail, not even on machines. I prefer old good times, the same day and the same hours. But this is just an opinion. Im interested in how the electoral system works.

But this is just an opinion. Im interested in how the electoral system works. So you don't vote in U.S elections and want to know how the system works? Am I correct on both accounts?
Here's a brief overview: Voting laws are left up to the states to decide. Each state has its own rules for both in-person and absentee voting (vote by mail). Some states require a photo ID and a signature, other states only require a signature to vote. There are states like Utah, a red state, that holds their elections primarily by mail. Their system has a safe and secure location to drop off ballots. There are very little incidents of fraud, due to the signature verification system and how well the system picks up duplicate voting.
All ballots go through a machine. These ballots could be in-person or through the mail. All of them get scanned for fraud when put into the machines.
Not sure what this has to do with ranked choice/preferential ballot voting. The machines are programed to read the ballot as instructed.
What do you mean by "the old good times"? Originally only rich white males could vote. We only started voting in private over voting out loud in the late 1800s. Counting things by hand was massively inefficient and time consuming. The computers get it done quicker and have a system designed to track down fraud. Arguing for the good ole days is like arguing that women shouldn't be allowed to vote.
Can you explain to me why ranked choice voting is too time consuming? That was your original complaint, but I see no actual attempt to defend such position.

Counting by Hands of course. Women votes in Uruguay since the 930s. We have a system that we count paper votes. And then go to a minicomputer so in a couple of hours we have the results. Then there is a scond scrutiny. To make a revisión of the votes. And open the observates votes (people who work in the election, dissabled people and rural votes). Email votes isnt not allowed. As inst allowed votes in foreign countries. We all vote the same day in hour country between 8 Am to 7:30. Its almost imposible the fraud. Its worse than I thought the US system. Its easy to copycat firms. Scanning the digital print is much more safe. Of course by human mistake several votes could be nullified. Buts the people choice. They could vote presencial. In fact the frightening of that their votes will be anulares will increase the presential voting

Frst of all I hear as many falsehoods on CNN and MSNBC - from far less attractive people than are on FOX .........I mean anybody see how good Sandra Smith looks lately..........if Sandra Smith is lying to me - I don't want the fncking truth alright people - or at least I'll judge it on a case by case basis. Pffft FOX didn't blow the Hunter Biden story did they? But CNN's "Reliable Sources" (ha!) sure did........when people say "it sounds like a Fox News argument" - I just take it as there's 45% chance it might be true - just like anything that ever came out of Brian Stelter's or Chris Cuomo's f'n mouth
