Inspired by the other thread. He’s 6-years-old for context.

Just my opinion - I would hold off on any R-rated content for the time being.

I would say Terminator 2, since it’s the least “extreme” of the choices, but I’d be leery about any R-rated movies yet. But you know your kid better than anyone, so he’s in good hands.

On another note, if you wanted a tamer example of a good first R rated movie, The King’s Speech. To the day I die, I’ll still argue that movie should have been PG-13

My kids saw Coraline (I ignore its rating, but I thought it were a movie for children) in 2009 when they were 5 and 6, and they still refuse to rewatch it.

Out of these - T2 (initially voted Aliens but then remembered that when I saw it as a youngling I found the first half a bit boring whereas T2 is action packed throughout so it may be more fun for a kid). Overall - fuck it, go Kill Bill

Commando should be a family classic. Unless then you talk about Arnie as the Governator and Alysa Mylano "political activism".
Aliens and Terminator 2 shouldnt be count. Because first there sequel. And in Terminator you should explain about how babies come to the world.

Commando is great and probably the silliest in terms of its violence. I was tempted to go T2 since it's my favorite of the bunch, but that nuke scene is intense as hell and might force an uncomfortable conversation about nuclear warheads.

Why anyone would watch Aliens or Terminator 2 first is beyond me.
I would say The Running Man. Underrated Arnold classic.

I voted T2, although my first was T1 and I think you should show him that first. Not listed but you can maybe try The Road Warrior.

I voted T2, although my first was T1 and I think you should show him that first. Seeing T1 first would of course be ideal (if only to see his initial reaction to Arnold being revealed as a good guy in the sequel), but I feel like the first one is slightly less family friendly with the number of people getting shot and killed throughout, plus there's the sex scene.

Basically I don’t think that Alien would hold his interest for many more years whereas he’d probably still love Aliens. Same to a lesser extent for Terminator, plus the first is a lot grittier for him. Have started him with sequels for other franchises such as Gremlins and Ghostbusters before going back to the originals and his has never really been an issue.

Aliens and Terminator 2 are excellent movies but I do think watching them first would rob the originals of the unknown terror aspect of it when your kid does eventually get old enough to watch them.

That's fair. My parents were definitely not pleased once the sex scene came on that they hadn't remembered. I was going to suggest something like Lethal Weapon but I think that may have nudity too. Stand By Me was apparently R rated. Perhaps a western like The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly?

The whole thing of Terminator 1, is the sex scenes. Not the naked scenes. AS and MB were naked when they come back to the past and that wasnt a big issue. That the almost virgin Sarah Connor had steamy sex with someone who at the time wasnt even born and become pregnant at the end. Thats too much todo explain. In the seccond there isnt sex but there are drugs and Child abuse. And yep you have to explain the first movie. I think Lethal Weapons films despite some nudity and sex are more friendly sagas than Terminator or Alien.
