RIP Peter Green, 73 - co-founder of the original Fleetwood Mac and creator of this song........ one of Rock's greatest and scariest creations.

Happy Birthday to the greatest frontman in Rock history - is this even close (?) - you either imitated him (Iggy, Johansen) or you avoided doing anything like him to not rip him off because everyone ripped him off. He saved the Stones when people thought they were done at least twice - Beggar's Banquet and Some Girls......he literally saved Keith........3 of the greatest Rock vocals ever are his (Sympathy For The Devil, Gimme Shelter, Sister Morphine) - and that's not including Moonlight Mile, Satisfaction, Paint it Black, or Shattered. ..........dated and was engaged to Jeanie Shrimpton (how did he get HER? ), conceived/executed and played the biggest F-You to a Rock label ever (C*cksucker Blues) and from 68-72 (at least) he fronted the GOAT band. Pleased to meet him .......hope you guessed his name......... Happy 77th B-day Mick Jagger

Younger Punk fans ......say fans of Arctic Monkeys or any subsequent pop-punk band that came later often can get baffled by The Buzzcocks legend. Unlike The Sex Pistols, Clash, Ramones etc. they don't have a classic original album (Singles Going Steady of course is their 8 singles compiled) and so many people do what The Buzzcocks did - why listen to them specifically?
Well, the reason the Buzzcocks are a crucial band - an all-time great band - is because The Buzzcocks were great originators who had a distinct formula too: they almost never had their exciting music follow the exciting vocal pattern - in this song, maybe their best - the music is static but the vocal line (as always) isn't and it's complex too:
So you remember each of those as distinct and the song changes in tricky ways so it never gets old - call and response at the end and a sudden stop, some verses sung and some almost talked. You remember the way it's sung but how it's sung is sarcastic/sardonic because it never "has" to match the music (which can't be sarcastic/sardonic in this formula).
Only The Ramones and the slightly later Wire (of their contemporaries) did this trick and later of course...... everybody did it .......and not as well either.
