Yeah, I know it's basic, sappy, sugary, bubblegum sweetness, but it's the best kind of sugary sweet (certainly better than the movie it's attached to). It hits me in the sweet spot that something like "Happy" doesn't.

Currently, Mozart Piano Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 333, third movement. Though for the past week or so, it's been Giacchino's Doctor Strange theme.

Weirdly enough, all that keeps playing in my head right now is this little gorgeous bit from Desplat's "The Secret Life of Pets" score (from here until 2:57): Kinda perfectly captures my mood in the last couple of weeks. That movie didn't deserve that good of a score. Amazing how one of the few times Desplat isn't coasting and creates this energetic and lovely score, it's for a movie that's not good at all.

I wasn't that harsh on this movie (nothing special but fun), but Desplat did some really terrific work here. You never know when a composer's inspiration is gonna kick in and it is indeed weird that this particular project turned that lightbulb on within him. But I'm glad it did! And while the overall score is very jazzy and fun, this bit that I chose just always kills me. So brief yet so moving.

If it wasn't for his recent stuff that's felt like he's too bombarded with projects to care (aka coasting), he'd be one of my favorite composers. I can listen to his Benjamin Button score anytime. It's just so beautiful, melancholy, hopeful, romantic everything all in one. And his work with Wes Anderson is wonderful as well, very joyful and bouncy, but always with a tinge of poignancy as well.

Obsessed.
Sing it angel. Anyone else hear an Emmylou Harris quality in Hope's voice?

It's in my head... but it's one of those cases where I don't mind... it's just so damn catchy.

Purple Rain by Prince for me. I've listened to it so many times over the past few days and it always suits my mood whatever I'm doing.
