Thought it was 2015. If so, definitely need to edit my 2016 list cuz that would be like #7 for me this year.

This was the year that my movie-watching life started to falter. I don't have a confident top 10 but here's a mini trip down the memory-lane.
1# Horace and Pete. C.K sort-of become a replacement for Woody Allen here to me; and by the end he had exceeded him. Full of laughter, sadness and misery. May be my favorite Buscemi performance and character.
2# O.J: Made in America. One of my favorite documentaries ever. I didn't know anything about the O.J story (don't @ me) so this was not only a journey through modern history but a thrilling crime case too. The conclusion is baffling... hard to shake off from your head.
3# Swiss Army Men. Frankly, I don't know how I'd react to it's quirky nature today... but I dug it when I watched it a few times when it came out.
Nocturnal Animals, Arrival, Lady Macbeth, Hacksaw Ridge, Personal Shopper, Their Finest and Finding Dory would be 4-10 and while they're not perfect (and I get the hate for some of them), they are memorable.

May be my favorite Buscemi performance and character. An exceptional work! Great mention. Idk another writer-director this century who's done something like it. Self-funded, self-distributed.... It was a totally daring endeavor, funny and sweet but very serious-minded and often heartbreaking. Really great cast. Buscemi, Falco, Lange, Alan Alda (a role Pesci, Walken, and Nicholson turned down) and a barnstorming monologue by a career-best Laurie Metcalf. CK is a treasure, I hope he works more. What other comedian would do a project inspired by Play for Todays and Eugene O'Neill?

What other comedian would do a project inspired by Play for Todays and Eugene O'Neill? It was really something cohesive and exciting... and yeah O'Neil probably does it more justice than Allen. Featured modern concerns and elements (hooking up with a trans person and dealing with it, casting the girl from 30 Rock as her daughter) but totally remained it's own surprising, lovely thing. Metcalf was jaw-droppingly good and I'm glad it was Alda who was ultimately cast. "I can't believe you married that cnut " + Come to think of it, it was the Fishing with John of our time (albeit a thematically more serious project); Came out of nowhere, did it's magic and went away. Even their opening songs strongly resemble each other.

La La Land The only differences are The Salesman would take eighth, and Silence would be tenth. The Nice Guys is out, and Zootopia stays where it is. Otherwise, spot on to how it was.

I like this year quite a lot a couple of years later would include A Woman's Life somewhere in the top 10. And Weiner and From Afar in honorable mentions. The Wailing and Neruda dissolve into existence
