Side Note (that makes Mendes's directing win all the more baffling) I forgot Beauty didn't even get into best picture.

1999 is such a bad movie year.

As you can probably guess, there were a lot of close races this year. If you're curious... In Directing, Mendes won by a single vote, Anderson and Mann tied for second, Lynch was third. In Adapted Screenplay, Election likewise won by a single vote, with Fight Club and The Insider tying for second and the rest having minimal support.

This marks the end of this series, at least for me. These last couple rounds actually saw a slight uptick in participation, though how long it holds, I can't say. If someone does want to continue this, they have my blessing and support. Thank you to all who helped make this last as long as it did.

Well, THANK GOD it wasn't Magnolia, otherwise I would have probably died tonight (I was certainly close when I saw the Original Screenplay and Supporting Actor wins). The three wins for American Beauty are some of the most deserved. Those who love the film need to be more vocal about it, so the haters can just STFU for once. But I am more than happy with the choices for Best Actor and Best Picture (especially when I was predicting Magnolia would take the latter). The Straight Story is in my top 20 of all time. Thank you so much, pendragon ! I don't know if we're actually ending these (hope not), but if we are, what a great way of ending!

Thank you to Pendragon for running this series for so long. If nobody else is willing to take over, I can step in as well. I will wish to contact Pendragon about his formatting (I really like the pictures he does to show the nominees, and I have no idea how to do that), but I won't have any issues with tallying votes. So long as we can stick around our core group of 20-25, I think that will be adequate for the poll. That will mean we have the same number of voters as the Golden Globes, but with fewer bribes!

MAGNOLIA is a MASTERPIECE that makes AMERICAN BEAUTY look like a cheesy sitcom by comparison (even though I like it quite a bit). They're not remotely on the same level. MAGNOLIA shits on AB at every single level. Acting, directing, writing, music, editing...not even remotely close. And Tom Cruise deserved to win here just like he was ROBBED of the Oscar in 2000. A truly great supporting turn.
