Hardy is an easy target, but I'm struggling to take Comer's accent seriously at all. Obviously it's difficult to tell from a teaser trailer, but Butler is the only actor of the core trio who seems to fit in this milieu at all... I'm imagining this film in the early Aughts with Billy Crudup, Samantha Morton, and Sean Penn instead - maybe Soderbergh behind the camera?

Ooooh. I really like the look of this, and Comer especially looks incredible. That said, I do kinda wish it were shot in black-and-white. Enjoyable trailer. I got Casino and Goodfellas vibes. Comer looks legit. I am keeping her on my Best Actress list.I'm shocked I tell you, shocked! /s

Tom Hardy, master of 1000 WTF accents. Comer doesn't sound that much better to be honest. We'll see, Butler looks aces though.

Wasn't this a dark horse MAR pick to win BP? Um........ This has to be disappointing to the great thespian Austin Butler who so far is "the next big thing" in the same way that I am the new "Mr. Sincerity" ..... The mods still won't unlock that "Is Austin Butler Hot" Thread - (wtf) .........so I'm going to repeat it here -there are several dudes his age I spot daily walking down the street "hotter" than him - and I live in an ugly town and am so straight I'm practically offensively, aggressively heterosexual - and he wasn't particularly good as Elvis ......he is not - as of yet, anyway - the next DiCaprio (GTFO) and he may not even be .........the next Barry Keoghan

I mean, Disney has probably just lost somewhere in the region of 500 million dollars with the catastrophic failure of The Marvels. Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny was a big money loser as well. A Haunting In Venice as well. There are others this year. This feels like an obvious cost saving exercise. The films that end up paying for those tentpole failures are smaller films like The Bikeriders. They likely let it go because they no longer have the budget go support it's release after a pretty rough 2023. Disney need to balance the books after one too many big flops in 2023, or else they might end up panicking shareholders with a fiscal loss. The Bikeriders is well reviewed ( 85% Rotten Tomatoes, 71 Metacritic), but probably not a major awards contender. And it doesn't seem the kind of film to make blockbuster money to offset losses incurred by things like The Marvels. So do Disney really want to spend 80+ million dollars in advertising and marketing a period film about motorcycle gangs, that might make only a tiny profit, if not make any profit at all? I suspect if The Marvels was on it's way to making 1 billion dollars worldwide, we'd still see The Bikeriders on Disney's release schedule. The ripple effect of a unexpected box office failure as big as The Marvels can have these sorts of consequences. I'm sure it'll be picked up by a distributor in a better position to handle it than a Disney going through a flop year.

Nichols is a mid director, and I've been saying it since the IMDB days. Buttoned-up to the point of expressing very little, and entertaining very little. I'm still annoyed by the overrating of Take Shelter, where the movie is alive for like 30 seconds when Shannon loses his shit at that dinner thing, but is otherwise a completely underwritten/underconceived bunch of nothing. He seems like a nice guy, so I hope he snaps out of it, but nothing about his filmmaking has caught my eye.
Butler will be fine, as his work ethic will see him through. He'll probably be better in Dune 2 than anything Keoghan has done besides Sacred Deer.

Kyle Buchanan says Austin Butler becomes a "full blown movie star" in The Bikeriders , comparing him to a young Brad Pitt in A River Runs Through It, one of Pitt's early starmaking roles. Says studios only have themselves to blame for not creating new movie stars if they don't release star creating vehicles as obvious as this one.
I do suspect it'll get a new distributor soon enough.

Well that was quick. Focus Features is a really good distributor for this type of film.
