Very sad, considering the memory problems we were told about, and the reports of her being abused by her elder care. RIP! An incredible trailblazing for women in color in the realm of science fiction.

RIP Quite interesting life outside of acting - toured the world with Duke Ellington in the late 40s into the 50s, and after Trek became a serious NASA recruiter (Sally Ride among 'em). She was a wonderful, under-used actress too... like all those Trek movies give her nothing to do, but from what I've seen of the original series (most of S1) she could be very charismatic. Also a huge fan of her Truck Turner turn.... one of the most foul mouthed, wicked villains of blaxploitation (or in general, for that matter).... I've said before, some of her monologues in that movie would send Trekkies to church!

An incredible trailblazing for women in color in the realm of science fiction. RIP. So iconic and beautiful. Just her presence meant a lot to my mother (who has always been a huge Trekkie). I didn't know about those reports of abuse while under elder care. Stories like that always infuriate me. Disgusting.
