Because Pitt was investigated for being physically abusive in 2016 and he's got a producing credit on this thing. Pretty much a nonstory. From what I heard it was by and large because of his working relationship with Weinstein AFTER discovering his behavior towards his exes Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie. He has been called out for being hypocritical. I suspect that will only become louder as the award season progresses. This

I think this looks unfortunately bad which makes me convinced it will win BP Nothing screams Academy the more than patting itself on the back for addressing a problem they've only solved 1% of. I don't get how anyone watches this trailer and gets the impression that the makers or Hollywood ppl who might vote for it think this problem is in ANY way fixed. Things are worse for women in America than they were when this Weinstein story broke.

The casting couch phenomenon is well-known since the golden era...

I think this looks unfortunately bad which makes me convinced it will win BP This is exactly the kind of thing they've been going for lately. The movie that deals with superficially "important" but does so in a way that isn't the least bit controversial and doesn't really say anything at all.

Did you even bother to read the Twohey & Kantor book, dude, or are you just assuming the movie about mass rape/sexual assault will be "superficially" important in the same thread where you praised Bombshell for being a movie about rape with some funny zingers.

More reason to be excited: Screenplay was penned by playwright Rebecca Lenkiewicz, who co-wrote Ida with Paweł Pawlikowski and Disobedience with Sebastián Lelio. This is probably going to be her first Oscar nom.

This is probably going to be her first Oscar nom. There are indeed lots of quality people behind the production. Many of them are not household names, but have the potential. I have also noticed that (a) Clint Eastwood was the last director to direct two best picture winners, (b) the last two best picture winners were directed by women, (c) The Academy doesn't really go for the big production anymore. They go for smaller, more intimate pieces. So I do really like She Said's chances.

I mean you haven't seen the movie either and you're hyping it because people have expectations for things based on first impressions. Unlike like some people in online movie land I sincerely want to like everything I see so I'll give this a fair shot like I do everything else when I see it. My expectations just aren't high. I wouldn't say Bombshell was "important" either but it was a well crafted movie for at least the first two acts which did not look like the case here to me. As other have said it looked like a TV show, didn't sense much personal development from the two leads, which is one of the reasons the All the President's Men comparisons seem very premature. Also that was shot and edited like a thriller with a tense sound mix, which would have been a great approach for Weinstein or MeToo movie to really get the fear across since it's a visual medium.

It's just a trailer. A million things could happen from now to the awards season.

Update time. She Said premiered at the 60th annual NY film festival. 76% approval rating, per Rotten Tomatoes. IMDB has a 7.9/10 user score. The Broadcast Film Critics have yet to provide a score.
If we were to compare this to other films with similar themes, we have 2019's Bombshell. That had a 6.8/10 IMDB user score and a 68% approval rating. Spotlight had a 97% approval rating and an 8.1/10 IMDB score.

I think it can definitely hit Picture. Supporting actress, Adapted Screenplay and Score very much on the cards. Down to just Screenplay.
