Damn. I know he'll forever be remembered as Sonny, but he'll always be Paul Sheldon to me.

Farewell legend The guy was a twitter badass in recent times. He always seemed in such good shape whenever he made some appearance somewhere over the years. Sad to see him go.

"The Godfather", "Thief", "The Gambler", "Misery", "Cinderella Liberty", "Brian's Song" - the man has left a great legacy. Very funny also, as can be seen in "Honeymoon in Vegas" and "Mickey Blue Eyes". His twitter was amazing, one of the best there is. He will be missed. RIP.

I’m gutted. From a staple of my childhood in Elf to a staple of adulthood in Thief. And then there’s The Godfather; losing both him and Liotta in relatively quick succession feels like such a devastating one-two punch to the icons of mob movies. RIP. End of post.

In addition too his roles already mentioned I'd just add some different ones - very funny Dick Tracy cameo, The Rain People which predates The Godfather and is imo a Coppola classic with an ending that predates the famous Godfather 3 ending in a way actually .......and maybe the greatest scene in American film - his return in the closing scene in The Godfather Part 2 ..... RIP

Man is unhappy because he doesn't know he's happy. It's only that.

Rest in peace to a terrific actor.
I think my favorite of his performances will always be Cinderella Liberty... Check it out if you haven't already! Soulful, haunting work.

A shame we didn't get to see him on stage with Coppola, Pacino, and De Niro for the Godfather tribute at the Oscars this year...

Such a fine actor and great film presence. A lot of great tributes to a man who had many great moments and characters in movies, least of all the iconic Oscar nominated role of Sonny Corleone in The Godfather. Considering how good his body of work is and that he was also capable of carrying a movie, it feels like he was also a little bit underrated, when he could comfortably go toe to toe with any of his peers from that era (Duvall, Pacino, DeNiro etc). He deserved Oscar consideration for roles like Misery and Thief, The Gambler and the hugely underrated The Rain People.
RIP

Damn. I know he'll forever be remembered as Sonny, but he'll always be Paul Sheldon to me. I've always loved his Paul Sheldon most. Such a long list of big actors turned that part down because they were scared of looking weak onscreen! Caan didn't have have to worry about that.

RIP Loved him. Major, great, fav work - Thief, The Godfather, The Gambler, The Rain People, Misery. Lotta underrated perfs/movies too - Lady in a Cage, Memo from Purgatory (Hitchcock Hour), El Dorado, Freebie and the Bean, Rollerball, Hide in Plain Sight (his only directed movie, not bad at all), Honeymoon in Vegas, Queen Bees from last year is very lame but believe it or not he gives a warm, lovely perf.
