Yeah I'm thinking She Said right now with Best Director going to either Spielberg or Scorsese. But as mentioned we obviously don't know the full field yet and there's a strong chance the eventual winner isn't on this list. Pretty much. Plus I have a feeling it might go for a smaller project in general that might not be thought of as a serious contender until well after September.

We are actively experiencing Titanic 25 years later with months long 20+ million weekends at the box office. Cruise for BP. Hey, it will be exciting to see what happens with Maverick. No doubt!!! I'd be surprised if it even gets nominated tbh.

I don’t think people really get how depraved Babylon is… This would be like Wolf of Wall Street winning.
PS I’m actually changing my vote to Women Talking.

Scorsese could get Director. He'll probably get nominated. I can totally see that going on. So at least that is a start. And very good one at that.

I still think it gets nominated easily enough, but I'll wait it out to see if does any more damage that simply getting the nomination.

I’m guessing most of these She Said voters are going to be jumping ship next month now that the trailer dropped.

I’m guessing most of these She Said voters are going to be jumping ship next month now that the trailer dropped. Not me. I think it looks like something that can easily win as long as it's well received. I don't see anything in that trailer that makes it look that much different from Spotlight, quality-wise. Not sure what's up with the extreme reactions on here - not that I think the movie looks great (I don't) but I can't really pinpoint anything too egregious about it either. What I saw there was pretty much what I expected - a standardly shot and sort of self-righteous (but probably with a right to be so) journalism movie. I think it'll also be a nice opportunity for approval-seeking AMPAS folk to distance themselves from Weinstein even more - they used to vote for his movies all the time and now a vote for a movie about how bad he is can probably become akin to a cause for them. In a "Look at us! We've realized how wrong we were about him!" kind of way.

No idea but I hope it's The Son. Obviously I have not seen it yet, but I am interested in seeing how high its ceiling is. After The Father it will be interesting to see how Zeller's movie career goes from here.

I don’t think it has remotely the pedigree that Spotlight had, nor do I think it will be as well received or liked by a wide audience.

Still predicting Babylon, but I 100% agree with Jango's points about She Said. It very well could be Spotlight 2.0, and the Academy would love to par themselves on the back for voting for an anti-Weinstein movie. Nothing in the trailer swayed me away from thinking it could be a strong contender.

Just voted for She Said after watching the trailer. It is ticking all the typical checkmarks that BP winners consistently have in these times. And seems solid enough a picture from the trailer.

This race is getting stranger by the day. No confirmation on Flower Moon date yet - I'd include it on next month's poll to keep it in discussion. I think it's the winner if it makes the year.
Babylon - no show at Venice or TIFF (La La Land played both). What's going on there?
between The Fablemans, Empire of Light, Babylon (, and Blonde,) will there be a movie-nostalgia overkill?
Maybe we should add Tar, Bardo, and White Noise on next month's poll too..... their fest runs could put them very up. They all seem to be potentially unique, elegantly epic...

Interesting points all around. If it's me again doing the poll, I'd probably keep Flower Moon around until we get the official announcement otherwise. That would make the most sense to me at this point. Not saying that it can't change, but still. And yeah, Tar, Bardo and White Noise are worth looking into at least. I can see putting them into next months poll.
