Totally. I am starting to root for a Cry Macho sequel at this point. If it happens, Cry Macho 2 will be unstoppable at the Oscars. Count on it!!!

Having read the screenplay for Babylon I’m picking between Killers and Fablemen. Picking The Spielberg movie for now but it will probably end up being a movie not even listed yet.

It definitely looks solid on paper, no doubt about it.

You’re probably right about going with a movie not on anyone’s radar right now. Looking towards Toronto and Venice is always a very smart decision in my mind.

Well Cry Macho is obviously taking it so the question is really what is the second most likely movie to win.
Babylon and Fablemans still feel like the favorites but I would not underestimate She Said sneaking in as a boring Spotlight type "topical" winner.

You’re probably right about going with a movie not on anyone’s radar right now. Looking towards Toronto and Venice is always a very smart decision in my mind. This is my feeling since I think mainly Nomadland was on our radar early on, but not many of the other most recent Best Picture winners. Well Cry Macho is obviously taking it so the question is really what is the second most likely movie to win. Babylon and Fablemans still feel like the favorites but I would not underestimate She Said sneaking in as a boring Spotlight type "topical" winner. I’ve thought about this especially with Roe v. Wade being overturned, but right now I feel reluctant for various reasons to go for it. I know most voters care about image, but I think enough voters behind the scenes probably could not care less and really go with what they really want. So I could see She Said looking like a favorite, but then losing in the end. There’s also other things that for me would seem like it might seem hypocritical for She Said to win mainly now with the Depp trial, it seems like famous men are now going to the route of suing their accusers including the producer of this film, but unfortunately that’s exactly why it might win.

I'm thinking She Said at this uber-early point. Relevant, zeitgeisty, important, female-centric. All the components you need.
Predicting movies by titans like Spielberg or Scorsese is something I'd never do these days, Babylon may prove to be too outrageous to be universally liked (plus it won't have the 'message' factor to it) and I don't know about the rest really.

It’s still early, but if it happens that way I won’t be surprised at all.

On paper, it should be safe for a Nomination. It will be interesting to see how well it does critically and commercially when it comes out.

Pretty much. There are almost always a few movies that are on no ones radar until Toronto/Venice, just like there’s almost a few movies that everyone *knows* will get nominated that end up falling by the wayside.

Yeah, I’m thinking about going with something less obvious than a major Spielberg or Scorsese movie. To be fair, they probably will both be good movies and get a Nomination they both might deserve, but I’m not sure if either of them will win though. She Said, looks like a project that might break through and win.

I can't imagine a political film not winning this year. SC is gutting rights left and right, dems are looking to lose in the midterms, liberals in Hollywood are going to be really angry in the winter which apparently is Clarence Thomas's primary judicial motivation A female-centric political film is absolutely winning next year.

Yeah I'm thinking She Said right now with Best Director going to either Spielberg or Scorsese. But as mentioned we obviously don't know the full field yet and there's a strong chance the eventual winner isn't on this list.

We are actively experiencing Titanic 25 years later with months long 20+ million weekends at the box office. Cruise for BP.

You might be right. A movie with the right message might find itself in a very enviable position. It just depends on which one.
