Anyone else get a tad emotional during the Ice/Maverick scene when he told him time to let go and he said he didn't know how. Tom was good in that scene.

inoffensive, but generally good. i have no idea what insane things people are reading into this though - even in an era starved for good blockbusters there have been plenty out there better than this. still a good time at the movies though

As the credits started to roll, I was about to declare it a near-masterpiece with only one note: that there was no mention of Tony Scott. And then that plane swings past and we got the tribute. Goddamn, I shed a tear.

Okay so this is definitely scoring a bp nod, my dad has seen it twice already and wants to go to theatre to see it again. I wouldn't be surprised if this wins bp now.

I don’t think so, but then again, I’d been living with having already seen it for years. So I knew people were gonna be underestimating the movie. I just didn’t think it was gonna be so huge it would actually get into the BP conversation.

People really like this movie.

There's no way in hell this wins BP. It isn't even the #1 contender out of things that have already been released.

I saw it today in the theater and had the feeling the great majority of the public were about my age, people who were young when the first one was released. I remember that year lots of students applied aeronautical engineering in my university. I have to say, most lines (and events) were quite predictable. Good flying scenes though.

Saw it on a flight. I can't be the only one who sees the parallel between this and the first star wars movie? It's practically a remake set in the 2020s.
There are some pretty shots and some sequences are fun, but the script in general I find quite cringe-worthy. Almost every single character is a token: Connelly is the token girlfriend character, that other girl is the token tough chick, Glen Powell is the token jackass/himbo, Jon Hamm is the token annoying superior, the two black guys are the token black guys, and Miles Teller is of course the token sad boi with a dead father.
I also find the musical score really ... bad? Like not the tune itself is bad, but in no way is the majority of it fitting for the film imo.

Mopey, overly serious and very stupid sequel to a movie that was goofy, silly and very very very very very VERY stupid. I'll take fun and stupid over boring and stupid any fucking day. Rooster and Maverick's daddy issues were interminable, because every other fucking movie has done this shit with more levity and less fucking moping.
Harold Faltermeyer's supremely 80s musical score has been replaced by standard Hans Zimmer bullshit, and it is A MAJOR fucking downgrade. Why the hell isn't Hollywood hiring video game composers to do their music? You can not tell me that THIS
sound better THAN THIS!!!!
The latter tells a story, it has personality, it is a battle between pilots, it is invigorating! This piece of crap movie - in its writing, directing (such a disgrace to put "in memory of Tony Scott" at the end of a movie that doesn't have any of the visual flair he incorporated in the original), its music - doesn't have any of the variety and unpredictability of this song. This isn't nostalgia speaking: I don't really like the original movie much, and I've never played the game with the song posted above. But there is so much style that is missing from this mass produced studio offering, and it is absurdly upsetting to me.
EDIT: Did I miss "The need for speed?" Did they... did they not include THE NEED FOR SPEED!? If you're gonna cram your boring ass movie full of cheap nostalgia bait, why the hell don't you riff on the best part of the first movie?
God, I love hating movies again.
