pitchfork.com/features/lists-and-guides/the-30-best-dream-pop-albums/Cool! Why is it the first time I'm seeing this list? I've heard 12. I like all the ones I heard except the 2 Beach Houses. I don't like Beach House. They're entry level of the genre for people who haven't heard the stuff from the 90s and early 00s. I LOVE the Mazzy Stars, The Sundays, The Chromatics. Grouper isn't dream pop, but sure if you wanna count those. The Cocteau Twins, Mojave 3, and M83 are pretty good too - there are some stand out songs from each of those. pacinoyes Thoughts? This seems prime material for you to deconstruct knowing you don't like Pitchfork - but thoughts on this list without minding the publisher?

This seems prime material for you to deconstruct knowing you don't like Pitchfork - but thoughts on this list without minding the publisher? Pretty stellar list of all the big hitters. The Cocteau Twins I have written about before as an extremely important band from a historical POV even to people who never even heard them. Particularly their early mid-80s singles. I would say missing from this in the way Pitchfork always rewrites history i nstead of just presenting it (UGH) - is in leaving out the twee stuff - they mention that word in The Pains of Being Pure At Heart (pretty terrific record that one is) but the twee stuff was just crucial even if its wimpy - The Pastels, pacinoyes faves / underdogs Talulah Gosh, but also Heavenly, etc. Those bands help you understand Dream Pop now like the new Jeanines record I recently reviewed that just came out.......those are the big holes here and Talulah Gosh only have a compilation (the fantabulous Was It Just a Dream) so maybe that's why they're missing. Still, a couple of minor arguments aside ..........that's a pretty strong list as a primer especially, with lots of the usual suspects of the genre covered
