Big fan of this, one of the best TVMs, and Weir in general who specializes in mystifying expanses but here it's psychological, concentrated, crammed into a little apartment.... and he wrings much out of the mundane, making it creepy and comedic, even totally absurd. It's interesting how the ostensible threat between them rearranges and evolves.... and how they rub off on each other too, like how the guy puts on the husband's glasses and spouts some knowledge, only for the moment to pass. How she becomes calmer when she's at her most devious. Holds up too - in terms of privacy anxiety and political hypocrisy. Also makes me laugh how the leads look like Mia Farrow and Josh Brolin!

my Corman journey just started this year with House of Usher. Absolutely loved the gothic atmosphere and Corman crams it full of genuinely creepy moments (those red-eyed portraits, the extreme close-ups, that nightmare sequence!). I usually expect these old horror flicks to be dated and cheesy which has its own spooky appeal ( Hound of Baskervilles was one of my favs last year) but Usher is a total package. Can't wait to see more. I'm deffo watching *at least* Masque of the Red Death next year added Premature Burial to my pile. Never heard of that one! I have lots of high-profile Cormans to catch up on so I'm sure it'll be a few years before I catch it but it's on Tubi for anyone interested. (added Stalking Laura to my pile too)

It's soooooooo good. Gave it a rewatch for my Weir montage last year and it holds up incredibly well.

Has anyone else seen this? I haven't... but I've seen the original movie for Play For Today, which they banned and didn't release until 1987! (Side note: their horrors are usually so good: Penda's Fen, Robin Redbreast...). Idk if Loncraine's is similarly stylish like the first movie, but it's very audience-taunting, almost comically ghoulish, but also with the crippled daughter's scenes super uncomfortable, kinda unwatchable. But otherwise good! I love plots of strangers upsetting households and the character has a cheerful warlock's tricks, making the matter seem even more disturbing, more helpless. "Why don't people accept evil when they're offered it?"

Has anyone else seen this? Me! I was surprised how effective it was. Sting's best acting performance for sure

Very cool recommendation! This was sort of a blast.........I had never seen this one which is pretty odd for me for a French movie from this time period (1980). None of the jokes below will make sense for those that haven't seen it but trust me these are funny: * The lead was very lovely - French young Amy Adams - one character says "Your goody good act is getting on my nerves" - and she ain't kidding.....a guy walks into her bedroom and forces her to "cuddle" and she allows it........that's the oldest trick in the book! Come on!! * There's a very pacinoyes scene where she's asked what music she likes and she says "The Rolling Stones and The Bee Gees" - which is a little odd but she doesn't deserve to be terrorized for it ffs * The guy who keeps asking "Would you marry someone like me - Not me - but someone like me?" is asking the wrong question because at some point the girl is going to say "Wait, how much money do you have again?" ...........kidding, kidding!! * Old people.........um...........ammiright? Not a great movie to me maybe but very watchable .........I watched this at like 2:00 AM - and it was kind of perfect as a weird-ish early AM watch - and that ending is so time period approprate / genre appropriate - I literally was like "Oh shit.........I forgot about that
