Who is our "definite" Jean Jacques Rousseau? or Schopenhauer? or J.S. Bach? you'd think artistic types would've had immortalized them in cinema at this point. Doesn't need to be a whole biopic built around them either... who can forget Adrian Brody's one-scene-wonder Dali?

Well just off the top of my head: Non-artists - Oh, almost any African-American or female who happens to be a (gasp!) Republican or a Conservative - which really bothers me because I'm all about diversity, representation and intersectionalty - blah, blah, blah You'll live a loooooooooooooooooong time before you ever see a Hollywood biopic about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas starring Denzel Washington, Sam Jackson, or Will Smith directed by Spike Lee ....heck I bet you'd see something much weirder - like an American movie that aggressively promotes socialism for fncksake vs. capitalism and where Frances McDormand shits in a bucket win major Oscars before that. Sarcasm. Artists: - I've said this before but Veronica Lake - is an amazing story - a beautiful star at 19 / 20, the world's most popular movie star shortly thereafter, a drunk at 23, a has been at 45, an unrecognizable, anonymous barmaid in a Bowery Dive Bar shortly thereafter.......and that's not where it ends either. The story transcends her. More In The Spirit Of The Thread - Victor Hugo - though there's a recent TV series about him.......this is a dude who wrote a book that prefigures much of the political and social issues of the next 150 years - yet that work now exists in a way he couldn't have imagined (no one reads the book, but they turned it into a musical!) and couldn't stop his daughter - his youngest - from deteriorating mental health and madness and being committed to an insane asylum. His life intersects with our exact time in many ways - great celebrity, great power and even more powerlessness - he fncked everybody (literally), and was fncked by the French government (metaphorically). Heck that daughter ^ had a legendary film made about a very narrow part of her tragic life and yet her papa gets NOTHING despite being the creator of a legendary work of Art for one thing? Pffft. Pre-dates Hemingway .......and not just the beard

Don’t get me started on this topic - this is essentially an extension of the “historical events that would be a great subject for a film” thread for me
I will say tho ik there’s a Ulysses S Grant project trying to be made. I’d like to see Ben Affleck in the role

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas Would you prefer his biopic focus primarily on his sexual harassment of Anita Hill or his ties to January 6th?

James Earl Jones would be awesome but they'd never make it ......... I'm not a political conservative myself and I put liberal amounts of bacon on the left of my cheeseburgers (um)..........but the Arts are totally fanatical liberals - I see that Clarence Thomas film coming right after hell freezes over and we get Nicole Kidman in "Beautiful Dreamer - The Amy Coney Barrett Story"..... Veronica Lake is a huge casting problem - she was more cute than sexy and she was young but carried herself older but was made up to be sexy .......you need to find someone small, cute, manic pixie drunk girl basically - who can play drunk and outsized version of Lake well - in the (bad) old days I used to think Anne Heche could have done it - she was great at playing drunk - and had a more plain version of her de-glam look a bit (I'm stretching it) ........ but her career imploded and shot that to Hell. Kiernan Shipka doesn't resemble her but has some of her attractive qualities and is the right age so someone "like" that - I mean if Michelle Pfeiffer is playing Betty Ford - anything goes - Shipka is soon to be 24 and she's small - Lake was like 4'11 (not kidding). Not sure if she can act........but we'll sort that out in post.......!

Among the “Big B” composers still without a proper biopic, I’d rather see one about Brahms, and not just because he’s my fav. Not all great artists have lived lives that demand movies made about them, but Brahms is one that would make for great drama and is begging for cinematic treatment – he represents a fascinating tension between conservatism and progressivism in music, he labored for 20 years over his first symphony because of the expectation that he would be the heir to Beethoven’s legacy and the anxiety tied to that (a marble bust of Beethoven looked down on the spot where he composed), and top of that you’ve got the love triangle between him, Robert and Clara Schumann that’s almost like a 19th century George Harrison/Eric Clapton/Pattie Boyd situation... he died a year after Clara, with whom he had lifelong close relationship, exchanging numerous letters (many of which were destroyed). That’s a movie that needs to happen!

The_Cake_of_Roth I had no idea about that triangle of brilliance! *looked more into his life... A brief, villainous appearance by Wagner would be awesome. and I know he's been portrayed before... but is the world gonna let John Malkovich go without playing Freud?

@ Nikan are you not a fan of Mortensen's take on Freud? for my contribution, I'm kind of stunned that none of the big sword & sandal Hollywood epics of the 50s/60s involved the Carthaginians, at least none that I've heard of. Where's my Hannibal movie??

I also need Pablo Larrain to do something with Atahualpa and the Incan civilization. I need that.

I remember Fassbender and Knightley's scenes more vividly. 100% agreed on Hannibal B*.

Annibale, Asdrubale and Magone, Amilcare 's sons, were known as the Barca brothers. Actually Barca was Amilcare 's nickname from the Phoenician baraq that means lightning ⚡. It became their family's name.

Thought this was Jerome Powell for a sec when I was scrolling and saw the pic before seeing the name. I am now fan casting Kurt Russell as Uncle Powell

I'm surprise that Hollywood (not really) never made a biopic about Isabella of Castille.- Not even in TV a proper biopic as TV Movie, Series or Miniseries.-

Didn't find the 'great potential subjects for a film' so I'm gonna post this here... It may not be that strange that they don't have a film yet... but if there's a right time to tell the story of these wild old cats it's the one we're living in now, I reckon. And if history has taught us anything, it's that you can kill anyone you can film anything.
