Triangle of Sadness:
Peter Debruge: The thing about Östlund is that he makes you laugh, but he also makes you think. There’s a meticulous precision to the way he constructs, blocks and executes scenes — a kind of agonizing unease, amplified by awkward silences or an unwelcome fly buzzing between characters struggling to communicate.
David Rooney: Ruben Östlund returns to Cannes with the disappointingly blunt satire of class and status, Triangle of Sadness. More smugness than sadness.
Stephanie Bunbury: Triangle Of Sadness is bitter, clever and absolutely on the money.
Gregory Ellwood: It’s a bit long but I loved Triangle of Sadness. Hilarious. Insightful. And super sexy Harris Dickinson. Bravo!
Amy Smith: TRIANGLE OF SADNESS is insane and over-the-top but brilliant. With so many twists and turns in the narrative, political and social comedy is explored through humour that will have you non-stop laughing. A must watch.
Guilherme Jacobs: TRIANGLE OF SADNESS is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. Ostlund, you mad man.
Jason Gorber: Ruben Östlund once again crafts a jet black comedy, this one an excoriation of class, privilege and lack of competence or bodily control, a LORD OF THE FOOLS seasick parable about the fragility the social contract. What bleak, blissful, fun
Xan Brooks: Swept away by Ruben Ostlund’s sprawling, hilarious Triangle of Sadness: a luxury yacht-com that’s like Gramsci making Carry on Cruising, or Luis Bunuel’s Poseidon Adventure. Class war, vomit gags & Woody Harrelson as the tale’s soused Captain Haddock
Namrata Joshi: It’s length and excesses aside (well excess is the point) Rubin Ostlund’s Triangle of Sadness is my first totally wow film Cannes What a hilarious, scathing takedown of privilege!
Rafa Sales Ross: Harris Dickinson puts the fly in The Lord of the Flies in Ruben Östlund’s deliciously bonkers Riotanic aka TRIANGLE OF SADNESS. Come for hot people sunbathing on a yacht, stay for the razor-sharp satire that will give you cramps with laughter. A hoot.
Rafael Motamayor: It’s way too long and the third act was kind of redundant, but TRIANGLE OF SADNESS just became my favorite Ruben Östlund film. Absolutely hysterical and insightful. There’s also an incredible supporting role from a Hollywood actor that had me in stitches.
