Great Top 3, swap out The Godfather for The Best Years of Our Lives and it's perfect.

It's funny seeing the huge drop for American Beauty, which IIRC was usually Top 20-25 in this type of consensus list on IMDB. Goes to show for as much as people cry about totally separating the art from the artist, they clearly don't 100% feel that way.

It Happened One Night is one of the dullest films I've ever seen and should be way, way lower.

Like you can be any more wrong and not appear totally laughable. :laugh:

That being said, I wouldn't say It Happened One Night is one of the dullest films ever made, but redhawk is probably right it shouldn't be that high. Same goes for Gone With the Wind. Don't think Best Years of Our Lives is close to being as good as The Godfather. And I think Annie Hall is a still top 5 Best Picture winner though I'm trying hard these days to figure out what people don't like about it so much.

Biggest surprise is probably the middling score for Platoon. No real surprises amongst the top choices (85+) except I maybe would have expected Schindler's List to be in purple. The low rated ones are often cited as among the worst BP winners so no surprises there either.

I think in general it would be rated among the very best BP winners but our forum has some real Spielberg detractors so it wasn't that big of a surprise specifically from our audience.

The lowest vote was actually a 5/10, in a backlash you'd typically see 2/10s or 3/10s. It seems like people on here didn't let the frontrunner status influence their perception of the movie. Again a 79 is pretty good, it just beat Annie Hall and barely lost to The Departed. Both those movies are still very well remembered and regarded.
