Thoughts?
Hasan Minhaj's monologue seems to have gotten quite a bit of buzz:
And it was great hearing Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein talk about the value of investigative journalism at a time like this:

“A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom in our nation’s capital right now,” he said. “They are gathered together for the White House Correspondents' Dinner without the president.” He continued: “And I could not possibly be more thrilled than to be 100 miles away from Washington’s swamp, spending my evening with all of you and with a much, much larger crowd and much better people.” Even if you don't like Trump, he absolutely destroyed his opposition this time around. Trump: 1 WHCD: 0 one thing he's good at: talking crap.

Trump: 1 WHCD: 0 Destroyed them how exactly? All he said was he would rather be around his supporters than at the WHCD (duh, his supporters root for him), that's not exactly some extraordinary damnation on those at the dinner.

Not what he said, but image. What I assume most Americans will take away from this: coastal elites sit around at a tuxedo dinner while man of the people speaks directly to the working class. It's not a good look for them.

It's not a good look for them. I've heard one die-hard supporter say that (and I know several Trump supporters), but I haven't heard any center-rights or moderates interpret it in that way. His campaign tactics seem a little silly when he has the presidency and has failed to do everything he said at those old rallies he would do in his first 100 days with a friendly Congress. It's one thing to be at the podium saying how much better things would be if you're the guy in charge, but now that he's in charge and fairly unproductive the rallies don't seem to have the same effect.

It certainly work with is base I would think, but it really depend how you present it, Coastal elite in a industry having quite the struggles (calling them failing and elite at the same time could sound contradictory), and getting funds to help future journalists while Trump and a group is having fun complaining about stuff with what seem not much goal in mind, except a 2020 re-election.

Trump: 1 WHCD: 0 wtf? i would question the seriousness of this, but, in reading some of your other comments below, it seems like you 100% are. thats insane. how anyone could look at this as a "win" for trump, is beyond me. if anything, it shows that hes weak and cant handle the noise. hes the first sitting president since ronald reagan (who was, you know, shot 2 days before) to miss this. thats super telling. and when the funds raised go towards charity.... i mean, come on. and LOL at comparing the crowd at a rally (which, who knows to validity of it, tbh) to a fundraising event where the tickets are $300 per seat just shows how out of touch he really is.

Trump is still trying to figure out why the civil war happened. The man who bombed Syria is trying to figure that out.....my head hurts.

He ditched a room full of critics in favor of a room full of his supporters. It shows he's just as thin-skinned as ever. And I think you might want to include what he also said: " To raucous booing from the crowd, Trump trashed outlets such as CNN and MSNBC as 'fake news' and called the wider Washington media elite 'a disgrace.' He ripped the "totally failing New York Times," which he said was getting gradually smaller and would soon 'look like a comic book.'" So, he reiterated the same few things he's been saying for the past year.

Personally, I like the fact that Donald admitted recently that he stood by nothing. Duh.
