How out of touch does one need to be to think a slap is unnerving? Embarrassing. Lol.What does being "out of touch" have to do with anything?.Yeah, seeing a man charge up onto the stage and slap someone over a dumb joke was unnerving to me.Your comment is embarrassing. Yes, you're incredibly detached from reality if a mere slap is enough to disturb you. Have you never seen someone slap another person in real life before? I don't even like Smith and think he only did what he done to save face for being ridiculed for agreeing to an open marriage with his wife, but the overreaction is insane. Hollywood has a long, sordid history of violence and abuse, yet THIS elicits shock? It's not even that this doesn't have a precedent at the Oscars, John Wayne tried to assault Sacheen Littlefeather while she refused Brando's award and had to be restrained by six security guards.

LaraQ is totally right to feel how she felt - you feel differently, ok, no biggie - but you don't own her reaction so leave her alone - why are you posting aggressively towards her anyway? Who gives af why he did what he did - that is a crime, get it? words are words, but actions are actions - he crossed a huge line (obviously), apologized, ok.......... fine whatever..........BUT........come on, I've seen people smack people in real life, I've smacked people and been smacked (lol) but never at a televised professional event in front of millions over a joke that I was invited to attend and be honored as a guest of my peers ......heck I was disturbed by it too........and that standing ovation he later got ...............you can't tell people how to feel........Lara knows what she feels and why she feels that way ......

I genuinely don't understand any other take on the matter than "THEY WERE BOTH WRONG!!". That was my position. But then I find out that Chris Rock had no idea that Jada had alopecia. So then if you look at it from his point of view, it was just a joke on her haircut choice, so he was confused. That makes a big difference to me. This is all coming from what Charlamagne says Chris Rock himself told him. Charlamagne also said he thinks there is more going on with Will because he read his book and in it he says he felt like a coward his entire life because his father beat his mother and he never intervened. I never knew this. I always thought Will had a good upbringing. He definitely has some complex going on and in the last few years I think it's bubbling over.

He won an oscar for this indulgent TV movie as a kind of compensation because 20 years ago he was a moneymaker.- Despite his win and other oscar nominations for King Richard was a failure in box office. And his career was already in decline. This is his last pathethic swan song at the oscar, but probably he will be a presenter next year. He will continue doing movies for a couple of years and then he quitely be semiretired.-

New Hampshire is such a random pro smith state on that map, doesn't go with the others at all. I guess it's the most comparatively conservative New England state, but still.

Depending on how harsh the Academy punishment is, I suppose I can see a scenario where studios decide he’s too toxic and he just doesn’t get any commercial work any more, or at least a decent stretch of time,

So many snarky pacinoyes comments including but not limited to: * Can't he just go live with his Uncle and his Auntie in Bel Air? * Oh so Jada just told him to quit I guess? * What does Black Twitter say about this? * The Academy is obviously racist..... Thank you, thank you very much, I'll be here all week......

Yeah, I think this shit regarding Smith needs to end now. The whole furore surrounding this has gotten so well out of proportion to what he actually did, that I'm actually feeling sorry for the dude now. He's had to resign from an Academy that give proven child rapists like Roman Polanski standing ovations. For giving someone an open handed slap. purposely designed not to cause serious physical injury.
But people wanted their pound of flesh, and now they got it. For the Academy to add any further censure or punishment would feel egregious and disproportionate now. The story is done. Put a line under it and let everyone move on.

I agree. It's sort of getting tiresome at this point reading about this and that. I still think it's pretty funny he even thought for a split second that slapping Chris Rock live at the Oscars was a good idea.

As much as the Oscars have been a trainwreck the past few years, it would’ve been more of a punishment by the Academy to force him to attend the shows the next few years.

Sounded like a project that was hardly a priority for anyone (never even heard of it before now), including Smith. The frigging director had dropped out So this doesn’t really feel like a big thing to me. Now if a major project of his in pre-production like The Council got cancelled, that would say something. But I don't believe for one second Netflix is out of the Will Smith business. They stood by Dave Chappelle when the entire transgender community threatened to boycott him for being anti-trans in his specials. The idea that a company like that would think Smith is no longer valuable or worth doing business with because he slapped one dude feels kinda ridiculous to me.

Honestly, yeah. I think he's done. I can guarantee that some of his next projects on streaming are going to do massive numbers.People really have no clue how things work. The "outrage" over the slap will rightfully look ridiculously overblown in a few months time, and people will accept that while it was a stupid thing to do, it's hardly an offense worth cancelling anyone over. Smith will continue to be a huge star, and he'll have more credibility in edgier projects. The family friendly image has taken a blow, but looking at his upcoming projects (biopic about a drug lord, brutal movie about slavery), he's clearly over being PG and family friendly.

On pause is the key word here. Like I said, Smith needs to lay low for a while and keep his mouth shut.

I think putting on pause will backfire. Will just needs to be quite, do his movies and no press for a few years.
