I don't think so. At some point he will issue some apology.

It's going to be a long time if ever that he gets invited back to the Oscars but I don't think this is going to make a dent in his status as a star at all. He's not going to get cancelled for pimp slapping Chris Rock.

No. Tearful apologies (even in his speech), he can excuse it as defending his wife because of her medical condition. They will do Red Table Talk (Jada's talkshow) about this and get a billion views.
He'll probably also reach out to Chris Rock and get him to "forgive" him.
As as I said in the Oscar thread, the guy is about to play drug lord Nicky Barnes in The Council. Casting Smith now as a ruthless man prone to violence now seems a bit more credible after tonight, so it night actually be a fortuitous bit of rebranding for more dangerous roles.
He'll probably never get back to the Oscars, but this won't hurt him as a star.

Totally scripted. Rock wasn't in pain. Really looked like someone who'd just been punched by a pretty strong man.
Just another one of these: (the 2nd is certainly scripted. The first? Ehhh.... I still say scripted.) People wanna act like ratings don't matter, but they do.

He's not going to get cancelled for pimp slapping Chris Rock. Smith and Jude Law might hate him, but I see only evidence of him being liked widely. Smith already has had a shitty filmography the past decade plus. He doesn't need people actively trying to avoid working with him. Over a bald head joke? What a colossal fuckup.

I hope so. That was just deplorable behavior. Grow up.

It was a scripted act. Chris Rock didn't look like someone who had incurred pain due to being punched. I've been pondering that, but Rock has never seemed super convincing when he's not playing a drug addict.

No, the obnoxious pig makes too much money for Hollywood, plus the person he assaulted wasn't female.

Not only is Will Smith going to be invited back to the Oscars, he's going to co-present Best Actress next year with Chris Rock

It was a scripted act. Chris Rock didn't look like someone who had incurred pain due to being punched. Do you honestly believe that (that it was scripted)? That he would choose to act this dumb in front of millions of people and jeopardize his win that night, his image and his career like that? Chris Rock was perhaps not in pain, he even tried to joke about what had just happened, but after the second time he heard Smith saying 'Keep my wife's name out of your f-ing mouth' he seemed really unconfortable and trying hard to keep his composure (the four people who were commenting on the show in my country had the same impression). If that was a performance, they should give him an Oscar too.

Nah, he'll be fine - it isn't like he did something really bad like got up on that stage and said something politically Conservative ...... that they would never forgive .....he'll be selling Black Wives Matter and Chris Rock Didn't Land A Joke, Will Smith Landed on Chris Rock shirts with proceeds going to alopecia research and also the Oprah interview sure to come.

Nah.
At the end of the day he just slapped Chris Rock, way worse things have been done by certain Hollywood people. And this is certainly far from being a Johnny Depp situation.
He'll be absolutely fine and next year he'll come back to present Best Actress.

Nah. Let's put it in context. It was extra as Will's emotional ass tends to be. But he was defending his wife who is that way because she is suffering from a disease. Had the August Alsina stuff been brought up, that would have been really bad, but, uh, this isn't exactly the audience that knows or cares about that.

He should but he probably won't. I find it very distressing that so many people are quick to defend him, and that he was given spotlight to justify his actions in ways that just made him sound more like an abuser.

Not really- I expect him to go away for a while, but then reappear when his next movie is released.
That said, it really took any momentum his career could gain with a Best Actor win. He ended up being the most talked about, but for all the wrong reasons.

I find it very distressing that so many people are quick to defend him, and that he was given spotlight to justify his actions in ways that just made him sound more like an abuser. I think I was more disgusted by his speech trying to justify his actions in such a toxic way. If he would have just had a sincere apology to Chris Rock, or at least said sorry to the audience and especially fellow winners and not tried to justify it, I’d still dislike what he did, but it wouldn’t have made the whole situation even worse and again ruin the moment for Chastain and CODA who had to go on after that speech. He should have just done the honorable thing and left though after the slap. Not really- I expect him to go away for a while, but then reappear when his next movie is released. That said, it really took any momentum his career could gain with a Best Actor win. He ended up being the most talked about, but for all the wrong reasons. Yeah I think I said this last night, but my brain is only functioning on 3 hours of sleep now, I’ve big fan of his since his rapper days, but unfortunately this ugly incident will always be talked about from now on whenever his career is brought up. That’s why I don’t buy that this was just for a role or for his image because like Tom Cruise before the couch incident, they both had carefully maintained images and goodwill that are now gone forever. I know Will got the cuckold jokes especially after the whole August thing, but I still don’t think he’d destroy all the goodwill he had especially at the Oscars unless he’s having some kind of breakdown which is possible or like Cruise the crazy just came out and can’t be hidden anymore.

"Defending his wife"? It was a harmless joke at the Academy Awards... he needs professional help.
