CODA due to its feel-great nature and the fact it won the PGA, SAG ensemble, SAG best Supporting Actor, and WGA awards.

I voted for Coda but I think this race is closer than this poll suggests.

I know it’s dumb to focus too much on the relatively minuscule sample size of the anonymous ballots, but the fact that they’ve nearly all been hating on POTD so much has me wondering if it’s even second place at this point.

Yeah, CODA does seem to have some decent momentum going with the wins that you mentioned. Plus it has the feel good aspect as well. Talk about being able to peak at the right time, if it does win. You know what I mean?

We need more moments like that to be honest. Just to shake things up a little bit. OK, maybe we don't *need* it, but I wouldn't mind it one bit though.

I voted for Coda but I think this race is closer than this poll suggests. I'm leaning towards CODA, but yeah, I'm not 100% percent on it. If Power of the Dog (or something else) end up winning, I'd be surprised but not *STUNNED* by it. I guess I believe there is an opening for something other than CODA, even though I think it has the best shot at winning.

I know what you mean. I wonder if any movie outside of The Power of the Dog could rise up and challenge CODA tonight, or will it (Power of the Dog) be able to hang on and be the most serious challenger tonight.

I voted for Coda but I think this race is closer than this poll suggests. I agree. I think it is pretty even. It will all depend on where voters place CODA and Dog in the 5th or 6th round of balloting.

Yeah, I give a lot of props to Apple for their marketing. If CODA would have peaked too soon, I fear it would have been like Belfast which many pundits wanted to be the small feel good movie of the year, but as the much of last decade has shown, the early frontrunner(s) generally lose. I thought The Power of the Dog would avoid this, but perhaps the longer Oscar season was too much of a detriment. Or sometimes there’s just backlash once more people see a highly praised film, and it’s possible that could have done TPOD in.

love that they nominate Dog for every award under the sun and then decide it's overrated It really seems every year that a large group just throw nominations at films with the best campaigning and only watch the films after they've been nominated and have a lot of thoughts.

love t hat they nominate Dog for every award under the sun and then decide it's overrated I know, right? I know Campion might still win, but outside of that it seems like an eternity ago that nominations came out and life seemed good for Power of the Dog.

At this point I'd consider it a little bit of an upset if anything other then CODA won best picture.

Sadly this seems pretty close to the truth. I thought they tried to watch most everything during the holidays before the nominations were due, but it really feels like many wait until phase II and finally watch everything that’s been nominated then.

Just throwing my two cents out there last minute:
Before CODA won the PGA last week, I was already suspecting if it could upset given the preferential ballot. Now that seems very likely. A lot of those that don't have it as #1, probably do have it as #2 or #3, which could very likely give it the edge. That being said, West Side Story is probably not dissimilar, but CODA does have the edge between the two remakes as it's unlikely many academy members have seen the original film, compared to WSS.
Not only is CODA picking up a lot of support and seems locked to win supporting actor and likely screenplay, it's feel good (and I think that's really speaking the voters after two years of COVID and political mess) and they'd like to pat themselves on the back for awarding highlighting a disability and marginalized group of people. I really wouldn't doubt it.
