With all the (silly, imo) talks / hopes of DDL and Washington "teaming up" and the inevitable talk of DiCap / Phoenix (or Bale or Cooper) doing it sure to come up in a few years........ What first time older acting matchups would you like to see for actresses?
For example: * Streep / Huppert? (ages 69 and 72) * Kidman / Blanchett? (this is very HEAT like on the ages : soon to be 55 and 53) * Close / Swinton ? (ages 75, 61) * Below, I've listed some of the times that 2 GOAT-ish acting males - "over 50, acting together for the first time" teamed up - it usually fizzles for actng fireworks or is just "ok"......... unless at least one is younger btw. The Score: De Niro and Brando - 58 and 77Twilight: Hackman and Newman - 67 and 72Runaway Jury: Hackman and Dustin Hoffman - 73 and 66The Formula: Brando and George C. Scott - 66 and 63Blood and Wine: Nicholson and Michael Caine 60 and 63The Bucket List: Nicholson and Morgan Freeman - 70 and 70 Heat: Pacino and De Niro - 55 and 52Glengarry Glen Ross: Pacino and Lemmon - 52 and 67 Wag The Dog: Hoffman and De Niro: - 60 and 54

Here are some others to think about - generally the ones who are considered the "Meryl" of their respective country...
Judy Davis Catherine Deneuve Helen Mirren Sophia Loren

Ann Dowd and Margo Martindale... could you imagine. I think the set would spontaneously combust with all that character actor talent in one place.

McDormand, Lange, Viola Davis in any combo in particular - 3 of the 5 living US female Triple Crown winners - I think?
I don't think that two actresses called the GOAT by more than a few have ever interacted either btw - Vanessa Redgrave / Gena Rowlands ........ afaik

Are these the only examples we've gotten of these recently?
Wild Oats (2016) - Lange and MacLaine Book Club (2018) - Keaton, Fonda, Bergen, and Steenburgen Let Them All Talk (2020) - Streep, Wiest, and Bergen

Are these the only examples we've gotten of these recently? Wild Oats (2016) - Lange and MacLaine Book Club (2018) - Keaton, Fonda, Bergen, and Steenburgen Let Them All Talk (2020) - Streep, Wiest, and Bergen ^ Maybe that's true ^......it was so much easier to do the men historically on list below - because if you think about it when do you get older female roles - in TWO roles in the same film, over 50 to attract a marquee matchup? Even the men "repeat" in the example I gave below - DePac, Hackman, Nicholson, Hoffman, Brando all were in multiple matchups- and some of that is because one actor "pushed" for the other so much........that's why I think Kidman / Blanchett is extremely likely out of all of these in this thread: They both work a ton, both produce projects, they seem to like each other (I guess), both are "linked" all the time, same country, they are in the same "point" with careers - even if Blanchett wins the Oscar this year for TÁR (seriously possible, on paper anyway) that would still be true in the "general sense" even though I don't think they're "that close" (I far prefer Blanchett, I'm more meh on Kidman but she can be great, sure)....... That's why I mentioned Heat - they seem like the female counterpoint to Heat or as close as you'lll get to it atm. Also both are pretty daring in the same ways - and historically "will act with anyone" .......the thing that made Heat so special though - is it was "2 best, first time, in a movie that is "what they do best" - ..............I don't think females get that sort of luxury like that. People talk about DePac "being typecast" - but that's wrong, they always were "typecast themselves by their choice" ......so while I can see Kidman / Blanchett interacting, the "in what"? - is more complicated........as sisters maybe........or an Aussie remake of an age inappropriate La Cérémonie The Score: De Niro and Brando - 58 and 77 Twilight: Hackman and Newman - 67 and 72 Runaway Jury: Hackman and Dustin Hoffman - 73 and 66 The Formula: Brando and George C. Scott - 66 and 63 Blood and Wine: Nicholson and Michael Caine 60 and 63 The Bucket List: Nicholson and Morgan Freeman - 70 and 70
Heat: Pacino and De Niro - 55 and 52 Glengarry Glen Ross: Pacino and Lemmon - 52 and 67 Wag The Dog: Hoffman and De Niro: - 60 and 54

Judy Davis doesn't work much but when she does! Recently acted with Rampling in Eye of the Storm.... Susan Sarandon and Lange in Feud. I'd most like to see her team with Blanchett, the runner-up Aussie GOAT. They have a lot in common, Sydney Theatre Company alum, major perfs with Woody, Gillian Armstrong (Judy was originally gonna star in Oscar and Lucinda). Funny trivia - their husbands (Colin Friels, Andrew Upton) were involved in competing productions of Beckett's Endgame in 2015.
Also someone needs to put her in a scene with Streep..... or Huppert who she kinda looks like.

Mattsby pacinoyes - You guys need to see Serving In Silence! Emmys all around, and as you say, it's rare to see actresses of Glenn and JD's caliber being able to act together. The first-ever same sex kiss on network television (Glenn says she was momentarily turned, also - seriously, that's how good JD is! )... Also.. How delicious would a Rampling/Huppert pairing be?

And a Rampling/Huppert would be brilliant. They seem to be friends in real life but I'd like them as fiery rivals, one-upping each other. Maybe a femme Sleuth?

Oh! Patricia Clarkson and Kristin Scott Thomas were hilarious together in The Party. "Did you... want to fix your hair?"

Not sure if it's already done but my current obsession Laura Linney and Julianne Moore. That would be so fun.

I mean... I think this one probably went without saying. https://www.instagram.com/p/CWX-I1VDrhg I know that Glenn Close and Judi Dench love each other, as well - that would also be a lovely pairing.

In my mind Yorgo Lanthimos will make the story of Empress Zoe (978/1050), her 3 husbands and her sister Empress Theodora. Zoe portray Nicole Kidman as 50 year maid, still beautiful Bizantine Princess, who is forced to marry an old and boring Senator in order to suceed her father as Empress. After her younger sister Theodora (Winona Ryder) refuse to get married.
An epic story about the biggest sister feud in history, between an old bride and a spinster.
