pacinoyes - Do you still want to live in the US? I guess the real question is will I ever vote for one of the 2 party candidates again as I live out my (already ridiculously long) Golden Years. I think we're looking at verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry ugly divisive candidates next time too.....although who knows - depending on how big the wake up call is in mid-terms someone may emerge from the Dem Party that I like.......also some of those SCOTUS decisions may motivate someone in the Party ........it's not impossible I guess I really do think it's DeSantis as the Republican nominess unless some sort of scandal takes him down though

Y’all are worrying about the wrong people. Yes Hawley is sketchy but the guy who’s actually dangerous is Tom Cotton True...............Although if somehow the Democrats can run Mayor Pete - I don't know how that's going to happen but they'd love to do that - given the current disastrous duo - it's going to be particularly hilarious hearing De Santis and Buttigieg argue about who is more a regular dude - the Harvard / Yale Republican vs. the Harvard / Oxford Democrat. Good times, good times.....can't wait Democrats would be really stupid to run Mayor Pete considering he’s never gonna get the black male vote for…reasons

The major right-leaning party being anti-science, anti-education, anti-truth? Like I don't think this is something you see with the Tories in the UK or Les Républicains (Sarkozy's party) in France... It's truly terrifying to me.

How many big names in primaries this year regardless of R or D have had “scandals” come out about them that a decade ago would’ve tanked their campaign but today hardly puts a dent in it?

pacinoyes - Do you still want to live in the US? Do you? Although I am deeply troubled and concerned about the direction Republicans and this Supreme Court are taking the country, the realistic answer is yes. My family is here, my friends are here, my job is here, my home is here.

good god, I don't see how they could. They're embedded there and have spent so much money on Disneyworld and pumped millions of dollars into building the Galactic Starcruiser which they just opened (with a whopping $5000 price tag). All this legislation does is saddle FL taxpayers with Disney debt. It adds a lot of hassle and red tape for Disney too since they can't be self-governing but I don't see it affecting their bottom line too much. The burden of all this will largely fall to DeSantis's constituents ironically. All this because FL doesn't want teachers to acknowledge that gay people exist.

DeSantis on Fox last night with I think his only interview after signing it into law. It was practically a smarmy lovefest (DeSantis' sly, FU Disney putdown - said with an absolute straightface: "They could build nuclear power plants....without permits.......that's just inappropriate!"......Carlson laughs (so did I tbh, what is he doing pacinoyes-level sarcasm now? ) ....or just a controlling the narrative victory lap Ymmv

Anyone see DeSantis on Laura Ingraham last night? (I know, I know, you don't watch her, she's Hitler etc. ) That was basically an exceedingly smug, free one hour Fox campaign kick-off lovefest for him - quite combative towards Disney and Biden and says legislation isn't done. This is going to be a 2 and 1/2 year campaign for President with Fox already annoiting him the Republican nominee. Yikes..........wonder what Trump thought of that !?!.....it's on Youtube for the curious, bemused, morbidly obese......

pacinoyes - I think you might like this interview! Great interview - thanks. I am not sure he's dynamic enough or appeals to lunatic Republican base enough to challenge DeSantis ........in some ways his comments sounds like Chris Christie - another (former, in his case) Governor of a blue state but without the Trump baggage.......I think he'd do well with undecideds but maybe lose a lot of the base.........in some ways he could be Joe Biden 2.0 though in his message and say "I can get this whole mess straightened out if you give me a chance" etc. I'd be curious what some others on MAR think of him as a potential nominee......you know, in theory he appeals to me because I like the middle (um) but the middle lane is potentially only where roadkill really exists these days

Florida is the least affordable state in the union. DeSantis has focused his energy on censoring speech and attacking LGBTQ residents in Florida, and has neglected to focus on the Economy. For those of you who think DeSantis will be President someday, I would argue this: Elections are about the state of the economy. Is it better or worse than it was 4 years ago. The GOP has no economic agenda, only focusing on stupid cultural war nonsense. This is the ultimate folly. It may win the short-term, but not the long game. www.cbsnews.com/news/florida-least-affordable-state-us-miami-tampa-orlando-naples-rent/

Everybody's favorite Governor is back at it again. This time, he threatened to impose a major fine against the Special Olympics, if they imposed a vaccine mandate. The Special Olympics caved and decided against it.

Larry Hogan and Chris Christie nowhere in sight btw........is this a Biden-DeSantis race ....... and not a Biden-Trump Round 2 race? Will Biden get challenged? Bernie? Will this be the most dismal looking Presidential Race of all time after the last 2 which of course were the most dismal Presential races of all time previously....... thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/campaigns/administration/3513159-desantis-beats-trump-in-conservative-summits-2024-straw-poll-for-second-time/ Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) bested former President Trump for the second year in a row in a 2024 presidential election straw poll conducted Saturday.
The poll was taken at the Western Conservative Summit in Aurora, Colo., a gathering of 2,000 people in person and thousands more over the internet sponsored by the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University.
The percentage of voters who said they approved of DeSantis for the 2024 race topped the percentage for Trump by over 3 points, a slight 0.6 point increase from last year’s results.
Voters’ third choice for the presidency, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, was approved by 28.7 percent, followed by former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson (24.2 percent) and former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders (18.4 percent).
Five more Republican politicians followed them in the polls: South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott (17.4 percent), former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (16.7 percent), political activist Donald Trump Jr. (16.2 percent), former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (15.5 percent) and former Vice President Mike Pence (14.4 percent).

Gavin Newsom is running ads in Florida against DeSantis in particular and Republicans in general, saying that "Freedom is Under Attack" in Florida. Watch the ad here - CNN
At least one Democrat is going on the offense for the future of our country...

DeSantis is doing everything right politically. The right-wing has abandoned economic and health-care issues, and dived straight into cultural war issues. His priorities are "can't talk about race" and "don't you dare tell a 7-year old that gay and transgender people exist". He's not actually benefiting the well-being of his citizens, but he certainly knows how to get them angry and outraged.

I don't trust this man and how is he only 43? He just signed some new law that college students need to record their political affiliations. Why does he need to know that information?

This is a good article, about a possible DeSantis-Walking Haircut Gavin Newsom POTUS race from today's Politico - and a response to Newsom's ad in Florida which is marvelously Republican bitchy (below). They are both the new Hitler(s)...... Newsom is taller, older but acts younger because well, that Pat Riley hair, Leftist Wackadoodle, pro-choice............ DeSantis is more populist (I guess), pro-life, younger but he seems older because his bitterness has killed his Youth (um), Right Wing Authoritarian with a possible Napoleon Complex.......but DeSantis is actually the better governor (oh shut up)...........and has the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more appealing wife : It may come down to their wives tbh. Republicans’ response to Newsom is simple: Bring it on. They say they would love a chance to highlight California’s homelessness crisis, shrinking population and other factors that make it a regular GOP punching bag.
“Egotistical Gavin Newsom is desperate for relevance and attention,” said Christian Ziegler, vice chair of the Republican Party of Florida and a Sarasota County commissioner. “This ad will have zero impact on anything going on in Florida — both in terms of policy and politics. And the only one losing sleep over this ad won’t be Ron DeSantis, but instead Joe Biden will lose midday nap time over this as it clearly shows that Newsom is positioning himself to take on the Democratic president.”www.politico.com/news/2022/07/06/newsom-desantis-election-2024-00044128

Do you guys believe that the voters Trump activated (i.e. inducted into his cult) will just... flock to DeSantis? While Trump is still alive?
