I say we cut Gordian's knot and nullify his writing entirely from consideration. I’d be ok with that too

I'll disagree based on Amara's previous Blue Jasmine nomination for original screenplay where a filmmakers word was taken for the "originality" of their work despite obvious evidence to the contrary.

Definitely adapted for A Hero. Tough to say without having seen her documentary, but if we believe the thinking that he had no idea of the story till she brought it to his attention, then adapted is definitely fair.

For the sake of the tally, I’ll vote A Hero for Original. Since it’s largely a created story, but the scandal is pretty morally dubious, and ironically what Farhadi is always confronting in his films. That said, I don’t know if I’ll include it in either lineup

One more I only just remembered (can’t fucking believe I missed the deadline though), but amidst the controversy with Farhadi, does A Hero still count as an original script? That was one that I was actually gonna include in my Original Screenplay lineup. that's a good point. Normally I'd say original because it wasn't based on published or copyrighted work, buuuut this case probably warrants an exception on principle... added to the master-post stephen finniussnrub DeepArcher JangoB mhynson27 ibbi coop032 Sharbs therealcomicman117 if you could weigh in, it'd be most appreciated Original. And unworthy of voting for anyway

I didn't vote for that, so my morality remains clear. As does mine, nonetheless AMARA's morality has been stained and set the precedence. Happened again with Milk getting into Original screenplay with AMARA, which if you watched The Times of Harvey Milk it is pretty obvious Black adapted his screenplay from that film (Milk giving that film a special thanks...but somehow not being adapted from it?). Of course I think this goes into a whole debate is where does being inspired by end and where does being adapted from begin?

It's up to the individual to decide if the plagiarism affects their vote. That said, I'd theoretically also be fine with deeming it ineligible as Stephen suggested. I was not a fan of the film and particularly the screenplay so the verdict will have no bearing on my vote at all.

Yeah, I still have it in Original.

Yeah, original, although it's probably not making my lineup regardless.
