Uncharted has already been doing pretty good in overseas markets and it is also getting a China release. This bodes well for a franchise starter.

Uncharted is really "exploding". Looks like Sony make the right move to release it after No Way Home.

Great for Uncharted.Tom's a bona fide Box Office draw now. He has a popular game series with a huge fanbase to fall back on, but this is a strong start. I’m seeing it later today.

The success of Uncharted and Dog took me by surprise. I guess Dog makes sense because dog movie plus patriotism angle plus it feels like it’s time for Channing Tatum to have a successful comeback. I agree about Uncharted. I don’t think that it’s success means Tom Holland is a huge star now, but he was responsible for part of it as well as the movie being based on a popular IP. I read someone comparing it to Clash of the Titans where both Sam Worthington and Tom Holland were coming off huge blockbusters and had a film open up soon after which was able to cash in on that success. I don’t think Holland will fall off the way Worthington did or rather not as fast because Holland is already well known for awhile because of Spider-Man, but hopefully Holland starts to make better choices. No more Chaos Walkings or Cherrys.

I agree he's not exactly a box office draw per-say, but that has a much different meaning then it did even a decade ago.

Holland is a far better actor and has far more charisma/presence than Worthington.
Holland's biggest problem is his look and vibe. He's in his mid-20's and still feels and looks like a teenager. I'm not sure how he credibly goes on to mature leading roles. A similar problem afflicted Michael J Fox, and I think he was a better actor than Holland. They share a lot of similarities though. There is a subsection of actors like this (Daniel Radcliffe, Elijah Wood etc).
Worthington had the look. He just didn't have the talent.

I swear we just went through this a few weeks ago with your Ellen Barkin ""joke". If you got a problem with me being a fan of Washington and feel the need to bring it up in irrelevant situations to amuse yourself , you can DM me about it. This thread and what I posted in it has nothing to do with that. Thanks

Thanks For shit's sake, man, it was literally a situation where I misread the name and I thought it was amusing, because I had to do a triple-take. The Ellen Barkin thing obviously rubbed you raw, fine, but if you can't see that this was a harmless observation and not a personal attack on you, I don't know what to tell you.

Dude, I get a lot of personal attacks on here because of whom I support and you know it. I'm not blasé about this shit. You know my feeling on the matter, and it's up to you to choose what you think I might find to be acceptable banter, or what I might just think encourages the dozen other assholes I usually got to deal with. Nothing personal. You know I like you. But I've made it very clear I don’t find that shit amusing from you, because you are someone that I get on with and should understand what I deal with here.

True story - for the longest time I confused Tom Hollander with Tom Holland.......or basically thought people were mispronouncing Tom Hollander's name ....um. It was basically a "senior moment" that lasted a couple years

It was basically a "senior moment" that lasted a couple years It's even more amusing when you realize there's a director of schlocky '90s movies named Tom Holland. I always like to imagine that the Spider-Man actor got his start behind the camera shooting Thinner.

I read the title and thought Dog was Pig and was really confused that Pig of all movies was getting a wide release now and had 15.4m box office on its first week lmao.

He was actually a Lee Strasberg student, a failed actor who suddenly became a popular and decently talented genre screenwriter - Initiation of Sarah, Class of 1984, Psycho II, Fright Night, Child's Play....directing those last two pretty well and some Tales from the Crypts before his career went wonk.

I think some of this could be like when Lucy blew up right after The Avengers came out and everyone thought Scarlett Johansson was going to be able to open original action movies going forward when it was more of a flavor of the month thing. Holland is still riding the Spider-Man momentum and putting it out a few months later was a great release strategy. Uncharted is also huge, I'd gotten tired of video games by then but my last couple years of high school it seemed like all the boys loved those games, so I was always dubious on this flopping even if the reviews weren't great. There is a subsection of actors like this ( Daniel Radcliffe, Elijah Wood etc). I think that'll be more of a problem for him in his 30's, he might as well ride the boyish charm for now and take these big parts. If the Astaire thing works out and is well received I think he'll be taken more seriously and offered a wide range of parts after that so it might take care of itself.
