It's a fun movie, it's stupid but fun. That greedy Disney and their shameless Wood and GoatMan making all this money - now that is a real shame.

It's more bothersome to me that Transformers: Age of Extinction is fifth.

It's more bothersome to me that Transformers: Age of Extinction is fifth. Whether it's more bothersome or not is up for debate, but it's the time! This movie has been out for a fortnight! This country is going cray cray for this movie.

This country is going cray cray for this movie. Well I enjoy the Fast and Furious and think that as far as silly, over-the-top blockbusters go, those films have more redeeming qualities than most and can do some cultural good. After all, each film creates an absolute frenzy internationally and it also just so happens to be the most diverse franchise both in front of and behind the camera of any I can think of, with all of those cultures being presented in an unambiguously positive light as being part of a family. So, I certainly wouldn't compare them to things like Trump and Brexit.

China loves its big CGI explosions we've known for this for a while now, and it's a fuin film. Still won't make as much as the seventh film though.

The comparison to Trump and Brexit was not meant to be entirely serious though this storming an opening couple of weeks is only slightly less unbelievable a result to me, and would be regardless of what film it was!

It's US result has definitely been strange. I guess after 4 films of continuous growth you have to run out of luck some time, but this is a pretty steep drop off.

No, I got that the comparison was a joke but I do think there is an outsized tendency to read politics into films in a negative light (as happens with pretty much every Oscar contender every year) while ignoring some of the positive political elements in other films that are dismissed for some other reason. It's pretty absurd that box office records get broken left and right at faster and faster rates, but I'm more alright with The Fast and the Furious films doing it than I am with Transformers sequels as I previously mentioned.

The 7th film had The Paul Walker factor to it, so it's definitely not strange. Overseas while it's huge, it's still falling short of the seventh by at least 100m. Still it'll make money.
