Not gonna lie ...........2022 is going to have all the heavy hitters (or most of 'em) - in big showy roles or movies - Phoenix is Napolean, Nina Hoss and Noémie Merlant Join Cate Blanchett in Todd Field's TAR (!), in fact - someone is probably going to WIN a 3rd Oscar is 2022 - Blanchett, De Niro or Tom Hanks ......all with a strong shot....... DiCap is very likely to get his 7th nod - and 2nd win? - and Adam Driver gets a great role in a potentially classic film in White Noise opposite Greta Gerwig and maybe wins over some doubters ...........and my beloved Michelle Williams (maybe) steals Spielberg's Meet The Fableman's.........though you never know. and that's just the beginning........ What performance(s) are you most looking forward to this year?

Babylon is probably my most anticipated film since 2013..... I think.
So I guess I'll say Margot Robbie, because she was in that other 2013 movie that's my favorite of the decade.... Wolf of something I forget. Not that I'm a big fan of her - just by default she happens to be in a movie I'm really anticipating.

Lots of great mentions here that came to mind also, so I'll throw out Paul Dano in both The Batman and The Fablemans.

Surprised no one mention Viggo, Léa Seydoux and Kristin Stewart in Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future - this plot (?) and those 3 could be a pretty volatile acting mix - I mean a lot of people think Seydoux and Stewart gave the years best female performances, right?.......I mean in theory all 3 could act in any way and it'd be "realistic" A deep dive into the not-so-distant future in which humankind is learning to adapt to its synthetic surroundings. This evolution moves humans beyond their natural state and into a metamorphosis, which alters their biological makeup.

How about (arguably) the greatest stage actor of the last 25 years - and yeah I haven't liked him in movies lately (0 for his last 3 thanx!)- Mark Rylance - playing Satan in a role that sounds amazing and complex for Malick........um, if Malick doesn't cut it out I mean. ........and it's a role that the 3 GOATs all have played - DePac, Nicholson....... I mean - it could be an astonishing performance .........an all-timer even ?

hmmm great question. I mean Ana de Armas in Blonde has to be up there. Ethan Hawke in Black Phone might be a hilarious trainwreck but intentionally because he's clearly playing up the zaniness.
I'll just throw together another damn list
Cate Blanchett - Tár Florence Pugh - Don't Worry Darling Ana de Armas - Blonde Stone + Dafoe - Poor Things Jessica Chastain - The Good Nurse (she's due a good villain role) Adam Driver - White Noise (another Driver/Baumbach collab could only be a good thing) Posey + Lane - Disappointments Boulevard Mara + Buckley - Women Talking Kazan + Mulligan - She Said Stewart + Mortensen - Crimes of the Future Jennifer Lawrence - Red, White and Water Asa Butterfield - Flux Gourmet
odds and ends: Dario Argento - Vortex Paul Dano - The Batman (his voice in the trailer is totally unrecognizable -- I'm intrigued!) Colin Farrell - After Yang (looks fairly subdued but Farrell in this *type* of movie is something I need in my life)

I have to go with my talented man Michael Fassbender making his return (hopefully back on the right track) as the lead in a David Fincher film, the Killer. I was just watching that 17 minute-long shot in Hunger the other day.

Is Helen Mirren's Golda Meir film out this year? If so then it's that one.
Maggie Smith's A German Life would be a close second. If the film's good I could see it following The Father's trajectory and become a big hit.

I just realized that Hugh Jackman has just one Oscar nod and that too back in 2012. Damn. His performance in Bad Education was my favorite of the year (until I saw Hopkins) and he was fantastic in Prisoners, LOGAN etc. I really hope to see him back in the awards discussion next year for The Son.

Excellent mention ^ I've always said I could never stand him in anything (even TWBB, especially in TWBB actually) until Love & Mercy (where he was nodworthy). I can't think of a better actor fit with a role in a project than him - it's like all his annoying tics and quirks potentially fit the character and the character potentially is overwhelmingly awesone.
