Lotta people blaming the Academy for her initial non-invite when it was Disney’s decision because she is filming in London and they didn’t want to halt production. Her public ploy worked well though.

Kudos to her for orchestrating social media outrage to get an invite. But in the long run, this makes her look entitled and disrespectful bc she clearly doesn’t respect the time of the crew working on her current production. For a young actress who just came on the scene to act a little bratty like this, it gives a terrible impression and is a strike against her

I didn't like the film and REALLY disliked her performance, but, as you said earlier, she's the star of one of the most nominated films. She has EVERY RIGHT and expectation that she'd be invited. Fuck her current film, it can wait.

Have they announced yet the order in which the categories are being presented?? Pleeeeeease let Original Screenplay be the 2nd or 3rd category of the night. The winner will determine the mood I'm in when I sit through this annual 3 hours of bullshit...or whether I even turn it off for the first time in my Oscar-watching life (28 straight years since 1994).

Sean Penn is calling for a boycott of the Oscars if they don't have Zelensky appear. And he says if that happens, when he gets back he will publically melt his Oscar.

Apparently there’s Oscars pick ‘em on the espn fantasy app and I’ve never noticed this before in previous years
10% have picked CODA for BP and 17% for screenplay which is interesting since, at least on here, it seems like opinion is split on whether it’ll be CODA or PotD. PotD for comparison has been picked 60% for BP and 72% for screenplay. Ik it’s espn but most of the picks seem to agree with the consensus “locks” and betting odds

WAY. should she have to miss it out of minor inconvenience to the crew. She DESERVES to be there. So, in this case, FUCK the crew!

Penn is so obnoxious and self-important, it's ridiculous. And the only way he can stay relevant/in the public eye is by pulling shit like this to keep his name in headlines, because nobody has given a crap about his acting (or directing) in a long time.

And I find it hard to believe that Disney, practically an empire at this point, couldn’t move or reschedule things around, or compensate it’s production’s crew, so that the star of one of its Best Picture nominees, whose telecast itself is on another Disney subsidiary, can attend the ceremony. And I know it sounds extreme, but it is true, that taking to social media is the only way to get Disney’s attention (I see that all the time when it comes to their theme parks). It’s appearances they care about

It’s appearances they care about on other social media, I’ve read from some who work as crew who explained why this is disruptive. Of course Disney fucked up, but she orchestrated outrage and had people being like “The Academy is racist for not invited a Latina actress...representation matters” all because of production schedule. It was disgusting. The Academy does have a race problem but not inviting Zegler wasn’t an example of it.

The whole thing started as someone asking her on Instagram, and she responded. I don’t think she tried to start a fire, or that she even thought she’d ultimately get to go. But even so, crew members placing the blame on her for a company’s lack of foresight… This is where I get tin-foil hatty, but that feels almost like a ploy. She’s the star of the film, she won a Globe, so not inviting her and making a 180 to save face, and then placing executive flubs on her head just looks like borderline public gaslighting.

You said yourself taking to social media is how you get Disney’s attention I didn’t say the crew of Snow White was blaming her. I said people who work in crew on productions explained by halting production for a few days with a week’s notice is disruptive I completely agree with you she should’ve been invited and Disney should’ve planned for this months ahead of time. However, it’s clear she responded to that IG comment in a dishonest way knowing it would get attention. “I don’t know why I wasn’t invited ☹️”. Yes you do As for gaslighting, this isn’t gaslighting at all. Gaslighting is a specific psychological term used to describe abusive manipulation tactics between intimate partners or family members. It is not and will never mean public disagreements or dispute. This isn’t an abusive situation or dynamic. She’s not being abused in any way nor is she getting hate. The internet is on her side. Excessive misuse of the word gaslighting is damaging to victims of actual gaslighting

Here's what Penn had to say:

Hence why I say borderline. I can get behind people finding it inconvenient and disruptive, but it’s also a disruption that nobody should ever have had to worry about. If everyone acknowledges that she was in the right, why would there be any reason to see her as bratty? I don’t get how this can shift from a problem on Disney’s shoulders, and after she’s been invited, that’s when crew comments come out. I can get behind their frustrations, but the timing makes it feel like it’s being placed on her shoulders. To me, that almost starts to come across as a ploy, and that’s where the “play ball or things will get worse” vibe starts to sneak in.
Or maybe the timing really is just that coincidental, as could Zegler’s seem coincidentally “bratty” at first glance, that even if she was trying to make a ploy, can you really blame her when Disney was practically a hydra in this situation, having all the power to reorganize and allow her to attend, but withholding it anyway?
Also, I’m aware of what gaslighting is. I have family and dear friends who are victims of gaslighting. I myself AM a victim of gaslighting, and have been a scapegoat publicly or psychological shamed by members of my family, or in the social environment I grew up in (my sociopathic brother in law having knowingly, subtly trash talking me to a group by all but outright mentioning my name). I’ve watched people I care about get torn up by it, and it nearly kill them, and even still I get hung up on feeling like I’m being gaslit, and feeling the need to profusely apologize, whether or not I did anything wrong. I take it very seriously. So yeah, it was hyperbole, but I don’t need to be educated on a term when I’m already well-versed in the topic.

Hey, Sean... I'm pretty sure that, given the current situation and his job, Zelensky got a much bigger fish to fry than to go virtually attend an award ceremony in Hollywood that a lot of people don't watch anymore..
