Let's kick this thing off! I'll need a list of your Top 25 movies of the 1950s. If you'd like to participate but can't come up with 25 movies, I'd accept a shorter ballot where your choices would receive fewer points. Any film that came out between January 1, 1950 and December 31, 1959 will be eligible. If you unsure of a film's eligibility, you can reach out and we can figure it out but I think this is going to be very straightforward. Short films are eligible. [tentative deadline] will be AUGUST 21ST, 2022. I know that's a really long way off but I want to give everyone (myself included) a comfortable amount of time to try to catch up on some films, and I know these next couple months are going to be consumed with late 2021 releases and the awards race. I'm also timing for a potential AMARAs which would need a good chunk of time on its own. And I will be thirsty for votes so expect to be tagged and/or PMed for some [gentle] reminding if you haven't submitted a ballot close to the deadline As always, feel free to FYC below to your heart's content! Ah cool.
My brain is cooking these days so gonna get my roll in. Ill have one done right away. I will say there's probably like only 25 movies I really like from the 50s. Much harder to make a list for me.

Question: Will you accept TV plays such as The Comedian with Mickey Rooney? If it were Oscar eligible, he'd have won and be regarded as one of the greatest winners ever, you mark my words. Other TV plays that would likely make my list are No Time for Sergeants (a great deal better than the movie version), Marty (ditto) and Patterns (I haven't seen the movie version).

YAY! Some FYCs that haven't been mentioned:
La Ronde (1950) - super creative! The River (1951) - super spiritual! The Browning Version (1951) - super moving! Ikiru (1954) - super structured! The Earrings of Madame de… (1953) - super swoony! Senso (1954) - super cruel! Lola Montes (1955) - super gorgeous! Written on the Wind (1956) - super Sirk! The Cranes Are Flying (1957) - super expressive! The Big Country (1958) - super big! Rio Bravo (1959) - super matey!

Some to keep in mind: In A Lonely Place (1950) - Bogart's best performance and extremely modern in its sensibility - end the relationship with the toxic male before he kills you with his disgusting temper and gross penis! Elevator To The Gallows (1957) - The movie that introduced Doomed Romantic Fatalism into the Pop culture lexicon - a problematic tale of cis-gender sexual privilege (is there any other kind?) and gross appropriation of Miles Davis' score by 2 sexy white devils (are there any other kind?) - this movie should be banned - it is not diverse either and these 2 French people act like they're the center of their own universe! Louis Malle got a career........... Claude Chabrol got a lot of ideas all because of this.......

I always wait until the last week or so. Heck, I didn't even start counting the 60s until the last week. I guess I'm just lazy. I'll get mine in at some point.

Glad my constant FYCing of Tea and Sympathy over the past couple years is starting to pay off. Would love to see it make the list.
