Relatively fine for Enchanto I suppose, given you know COVID, but that would actually be pretty decent for Gucci. If it follows Knives Out, that's a 20m + gross over the five day weekend, which would make it the highest grossing non franchise film in recent times.

Estimating 26.9 million for HoG for the 5 day weekend - I wonder if this might over perform even ....from World of Reel so take with heavy salt:
"Audiences seem to be liking ‘Gucci,’ its B+ CinemaScore is impressive enough, but the Letterboxd rating (3.3), and the 7.1 on IMDb are concerning. Over on Rotten Tomatoes, the RT verified audience score which is 88%.
Over on the film review side of things, critics reviews are mixed-to-positive in it. A 59 on Metacritic hurts. 61% on Rotten Tomatoes could be the final death mail in its Oscar chances.
With all that being said, “House of Gucci” is currently projected to open with 26.9M over the 5-day thanksgiving weekend. Scott’s other 2021 film, “The Last Duel,” has an entire worldwide gross of $28 million."

Given the circumstances, it's a perfectly fine opening for both movies, but the numbers still feel fairly underwhelming. Enchanto will do about 40m over the five day weekend, while Gucci will make about 15m, the highest opening for a non Blockbuster type film in the pandemic era, but still not great. Certain kinds of audiences still aren't going to the theater, reasonably so.

Btw it's just Encanto, not Enchanto.

What's kinda fun is that no one can quite get a handle on the weekend crowds for an R rated original film for adults starring someone with a huge pop culture footprint but without an exact box office track record. Deadline has this for it which a big difference from other projections which have it lower and from World of Reel's which is way higher (not sure where they got this from?) - 26.9 million for 5 days - it's an interesting test case for Pandemic Prognosticating - although its divisive nature adds a whole new wrinkle too. I wonder how this is playing in the Midwest or if its more of an East Coast/West Coast film......... House of Gucci (UAR/MGM) 3,441 theaters, Wed. $4.2M/3-day $14.3M, 5-day $21.7M/Wk 1

This movie and its box office success story is going to have a very weird long term arc. How is this not a huge deal for Lady Gaga as a pandemic buster, 160 minute R rated drama .......this also bodes really well for Nightmare Alley by the way in theory. House of Gucci grossed an estimated $3.39M on Thursday (from 3,441 locations). Estimated total gross stands at $7.60M.

I wouldn’t necessarily say she gave one of the five best performances of the year, but that’s all subjective anyways, and I just want to see what she does/wears again if she’s nominated.

Relatively solid numbers all-around, Gucci's Friday increase was very similar to Knives Out jump, even if I doubt it'll have that kind of run. Also Licorice Pizza just demolished the PTA limited record, with its opening day alone.

For a Thanksgiving weekend, this went relatively well. I guess Universal's constant promotion for House of Gucci sorta paid off.

We always talk about how studios mishandled this or that - bad marketing blah blah blah - but MGM did an amazing job on HoG - like not just in the US but likely getting every penny they can out of world markets too......from holding reviews until the last minute, playing up the camp aspects in promo materials so people had an idea what they might be in for. Even if it tops out at just 75 million combined it's a long term winner for them - bring on the extended cut! HoG will drop like a rock this week (I guess) but one pf the great joys of this movie season might be what kind of snarky, hipper than thou ads their team come up with now - something like "See for yourself" but way funnier than just that I bet.......

I always said House Of Gucci would be fine box-office wise even when The Last Duel flopped, because Lady Gaga had the type of fanatical fanbase (" Little Monsters") that would give it an edge over other adult dramas at the moment, and it's proved the case. She is the new Cher. Her movie-stardom might likely be as short-lived as Cher, but for now, the novelty of her as a major pop star turned leading lady will pay dividends. The 3 day opening isn't exactly amazing by normal box-office standards, but in these times, it has to be considered a win.

I'm more curious to see what Gaga does next. Does she follow the Cher logic, and try to go for an acting Oscar win, and then only sporadically act next? Or does she take her acting career much more serious. A lot of potential options there, I’d have to imagine.

That's great for House of Gucci. Should do around 80 mil domestic and do well in Europe with Gaga and the subject matter (that kind of high fashion is a more mainstream thing in Europe, right? Should at least clean up in Italy).
That's got to be a bit of a disappointment for Encanto, though.

Ascends to number 1 on Tuesday - has a shot of getting close-ish to its budget in the US - doing stupendous overseas so far......needs a decent hold for its 2nd weekend.....before West Side Story comes and takes a big chunk of the adult market.....
House of Gucci grossed $1.49M on Tuesday (from 3,471 locations). Total US gross stands at $24.64M.
