Any word? Almost May and we've heard nothing.

No word.
I think he's very busy with the Irishman in order to get it made by fall.
I wouldn't be surprised if KOTFM started filming summer 2020 (that is, if it really gets made). These long time delays are very typical for Scorsese.

TerryMontana is right about that, it's typical for late career Scorsese to announce a possible start date, have Ferretti and company start early prep work, only to see him beginning actual production a year or so later. Ferretti was scouting for this ages ago. I would also be surprised if they start shooting this as early as late summer/fall, probably closer to early next year, spring or summer. I'm positive about the movie getting made. The next Scorsese is almost certainly going to be starring DiCaprio, and this seems to be the only possible option at this point. They could surprise everybody with an unknown project though. I guess Imperative is more than happy to have Scorsese/DiCaprio (and possibly De Niro) attached to this, so they'll give them the time they need, but would probably be interested in them to start as soon as possible. We could know more as soon as the Cannes Film Festival kicks off. They could market it there, maybe officially announcing De Niro's participation and selling foreign rights. We'll see.

So maybe they do start filming around September? No way. It probably just means it's definitely Scorsese's next movie, and will start shooting sometime in the first half of next year.

So maybe they do start filming around September? Because an archivist is helping with research? DiCaprio is filming Nightmare Alley starting in late September...

I posted here a while ago that they probably won't start shooting until summer 2020. I just got hyped for no reason... Totally forgot about Nightmare Alley.

The article says DeNiro will be playing William Hale. Has that been reported anywhere else?

The article says DeNiro will be playing William Hale. Has that been reported anywhere else? He's been rumored and mentioned for a while - check earlier in this thread. I would cast Penn or Oldman, de Niro isn't perfect for the part, it'll be a challenge, but having said that, I can see how they could shape the character to fit him better and he could use the deflection and muted rancor he did well in the Wizard of Lies perf....

I’m excited that De Niro is working with Scorsese in back to back projects! I haven’t been wowed by him in ages, and even his acclaimed work over the years like SLP and Everybody’s Fine has just been solid or pretty good to me. Will be interesting if Scorsese can still get a great performance out of him.

I thought him being in KOTFM was a done deal.
It's great he's working with Marty again back to back after 25 years and it's even better that a Scorsese movie with Bobby and Leo is finally happening.

I don't know much about the source material, but it doesn't seem that unique based on what I've read. What about this will set it apart? With DiCaprio aboard, they can go for all the scale they want, but it's not like that hasn't been done before by John Ford. But if this really is a Western, it'll be exciting to see Scorsese tackle that genre if nothing else.
Emma Tillinger Koskoff (producer) said they're hoping to film this starting March, so it should come out late 2021 if it's greenlit.

Marty’s talked about wanting to approach the genre on a “mythical” angle before. I guess that “mythical” angle, given the material he’s working with (the murders of the Osage people for the acquisition of their oil rich land), has taken the shape of mythical-deconstruction. A western that tackles, directly, something like the original sin of the American western frontier and its expansion.
It’s Scorsese and his body of work being so far removed from the setting and historical context, his ostensible outsider’s perspective, that’s makes the project interesting, to a degree.
I hope indigenous people have a great deal of say in the making if this movie.

Unlike anything that you've ever seen before... The last of it's kind... We've heard that a lot for so many movies in the past.
I mean, I love Marty and I'm excited he'll tackle the western genre. But, you know, Leone an Ford have done pretty much everything it xould be done in the genre.
