I don't believe any of this, it's just this journalist Ellwood claiming to hear things. No official trades or whatever, and Roth is the actual screenwriter and said it will come out November 2022.
There were similar rumours about Wolf of Wall Street that it could have been delayed to 2014, and it didn’t happen.
This thing won’t happen, i don’t trust Ellwood on this one.

It'll be out this year, most films have pickups/reshoots anyway and they don't seem to be doing that much according to local reports. Cast note - Jim Cummings (Thunder Road, Beta Test) on a recent podcast said he auditioned for three different roles but casting director Ellen Lewis told him he was "too funny" for them. He also auditioned for Oppenheimer and didn't get it which is a bigger shocker.

Just finished the book. Gladstone should be a pretty easy nominee with that role. Her character goes through a lot. DiCaprio’s character is kind of minor in the book but apparently getting beefed up. Very conflicted and ambiguous character. He should get awards attention. Plemmons is pretty much just a stoic good guy straight man. They are going to have to add a lot to Deniro’s role for this to get awards attention. Basically nobody is the proper age.

I wonder how they are going to structure the film because the book a lot different. DiCaprio's character is barely in the book. I understand why he wanted to play a different character because there's not much depth to Tom White but I'm not sure what to expect.

If I had to guess the movie will bear literally no resemblance to the book other than sharing the same story. Similar to Scorsese's last (as far as I can remember. I've not read it in years )

My guess if that are going to do at least half the story from what they assume his character’s POV was.

Not that there was any doubt, but... He should do a supporting gig just to diversify his Awards portfolio Such a huge snub when he last did it with Django Unchained

This has been WGA credited, so it most likely ain't moving.

I didn’t get around to the screenplay yet but his role in the book was never very substantial.

This could be DiCaprio's best performance ever.

So, what was Ellwood talking about? This is already screening in unfinished form and Scorsese has like 4 more months to edit. Why would it have been pushed to 2023?

Far be it for me to acknowledge anything Ruimy puts out, but assuming this is true: De Niro feels like this year's version of Charles Dance in Mank. Everyone was predicting Dance based on the role he had on paper and how impactful it must be, but the finished project barely focuses on him (good as he is). De Niro could wind up in a similar boat.

Not that my thinking is so award focused, but when I read the book I thought: this is Dafoe's Oscar role. Or.... Penn's comeback role. And same for De Niro - 'well, that's Oscar #3!' From a certain angle, Hale could look like Vito Corleone + Daniel Plainview. It's so fn ripe. Idk why they'd lean more to bland Tom White instead of him. But yeah..... small role in a 190m movie? Might well be a "big" part anyway.

"Smaller" could mean supporting instead of co-lead which is how it could have been based on the book.

As the fall festivals lock in final choices that will drive the upcoming awards season, there is big intrigue on two films from reigning Best Picture winner Apple that might fill in some blind spots on the race. The Dish hears that Killers of the Flower Moon, the Martin Scorsese-directed adaptation of the David Grann book that figured to be a strong contender for all the top Oscar categories, it will skip this Oscar race. The alternative plan discussed: the film that teams Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro will get a global showcase premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival next May. And in a development that could be a future template for streamers look to recoup some of the mega-budgets of the event films they’ve been making, Killers of the Flower Moon would roll out with a full-blown theatrical release through Paramount, a studio that was always part of the deal.

Honestly, probably for the best. Apple could do with a bit of distance from the CODA win, it gives Scorsese time to fine-tune and make sure it's ready to go, and a Cannes bow would be a hell of a way to roll it out.

Awww man. I was looking forward to a Scorsese v Spiel showdown.
Sounds like they just preferred option two: more time to edit and a larger theatrical period.
