I guess there won't be a big role for De Niro in the Gucci project. And who knows, maybe he'll film his scenes in the US.

The source for that is Eric Roth, it seems. If that goes to plan, this should come out late 2022.

So DiCaprio is filming back to back Don't Look Up and Killers of The Flower Moon?? That's rad.
Btw this looks like to be an unconventional and challenging character study instead of a more basic murder thriller starring the FBI agent/hero, which was Roth's original vision.
Seems like it will be a mix of There Will Be Blood and The Searchers, all according to Scorsese's vision. And this is the first time he's helming an actual big scale Western film.
Can't wait for this, I'm more excited about it than The Irishman.

One thing I've always admired about DiCaprio is that apparently he gets very involved in changing and modifying the scripts he agrees on and always has a ton of ideas about his characters. I dunno how many other actors do this but it's kind of cool that he's so involved. He's probably like the only person who not only made QT rewrite his initial visions but also got him to accept improvisation, and these rewrites with Roth, as described, seem like huge reworkings instead of a mere couple of lines.

He's probably like the only person who not only made QT rewrite his initial visions but also got him to accept improvisation, and these rewrites with Roth, as described, seem like huge reworkings instead of a mere couple of lines. I think the reason DiCaprio has success with convincing even traditionally uncompromising auteurs to transform their vision is that his suggestions seem to come from a place of artistic honesty as opposed to the self-centered vanity of wanting to stand out at the expense of the movie itself. His allegiance seems to be to the movie first and to his performance second. I think this is also part of the reason why he is so effective at convincing reclusive actors to take up parts that they initially declined for whatever reason (like Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York and Nicholson in The Departed), even to the point of having discussions to expand Nicholson's role so it would be more worth his while. I remember Inarritu talking about this collaborative aspect of DiCaprio, and you can tell that the rest of the table (that includes Tarantino, Scott, and Boyle who had worked with DiCaprio previously and have offered him other roles subsequently) shared his sentiment. Even on Inception, Nolan talked about having months-long discussions with DiCaprio and using his input to further develop the character of Cobb, which was initially written as a more straightforward heist protagonist.

Martin Scorsese Unsure He Can Recapture ‘The Irishman’ Spark for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ linkI personally don't see that as a bad thing. Don't try to recapture that Irishman spark, Marty.

Martin Scorsese Unsure He Can Recapture ‘The Irishman’ Spark for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ linkIt's a great thing to consider with him because he arguably made the best (or most acclaimed, whatever) film any American auteur made ever at his age - edging Eastwood by a couple years - with The Irishman.......AND he made an entirely different great film in the same year too ( Rolling Thunder Revue) - winner of the esteemed #1 & #2 spots in the pacinoyes year end rankings ......I think you could safely say, even excluding the merits of those two films his approach to them was kind of daring - heck a lot of people dislike both films at a conceptual level. I think a lot of people think they know what Killers of the Flower Moon will be - but what Scorsese showed in 2019 is he remains an artist that's not afraid to throw his audience - even his diehard fans some curveballs....... The Irishman was far more overtly emotional than he had done prior imo and Rolling Thunder Revue far less reverential than you would have thought given his love of Dylan.....

Over a year since its release and you still have negative plebs shit talking The Irishman. Move on already.
I'd like to read the whole interview beyond the clickbait Indiewire headline... but those are some interesting and kind of depressing quotes from Scorsese. He knows that The Irishman was a show-stopping, career-culmination masterpiece... which is obviously a tough act to follow. But he's pushing 80... he shouldn't need to feel that much pressure anymore.

Kind of incredible that deep down an artist of his stature and a professional of his experience still doubts himself, worries about having a creative spark within him and is unsure about a project he's about to embark upon. Say what you will about Scorsese, but he takes no project lightly - it's clear that for him it's always a journey, especially at this stage of his life. These quotes made me think about "Silence" and how its themes are so deeply personal to him that he basically expresses them here, only where Rodriguez kept reaching out to God, he reaches out to Creativity. But the principle is the same. Another proof that it's one of his very best films.

I think that regardless of how he feels in this moment of global crisis, he still has a couple of masterpieces or more in him. And this one, his first Western, may be his The Searchers, his There Will Be Blood. Can't wait to see it, i'm more excited about this than even The Irishman.

I'm still trying to brainstorm who could play Tom White. There don't seem to be alot of options of non-booked, white, famous and accomplished actors who aren't short or too old that could do a good Texan accent. Matt Damon?
Bale/Affleck/Clooney/Gosling/Evans/Cooper/Shannon/etc. are all booked. Are they going for an unknown maybe? What do you guys think? Presumably this starts shooting next month or March 1st or something, so we should have heard much more casting info by now.

Damon would be a good choice. I think we've mentioned him here before.
