Okay, so that was a good pilot. I'm going to keep watching the show. Melanie is pretty much daring the Emmy voters to snub her. LMAO.

Two eps in. I'm kinda hooked. It's a little more twisted than I thought it'd be.....that's a plus. Cast interesting so far, Juliette Lewis and Ricci make a good odd-couple. Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, Iggy Pop etc on the soundtrack, pacinoyes !

Ep3-5, I'm all caught up. Series still on track - it's in the Stephen King style, some LOST, some Lord of the Flies. Its parallel structure is coming together in some really haunting ways, like the Ep4 ending sequence. Cast really bringing it. I haven't heard of the actress Tawny Cypress but her perf is Emmy-level quality so far. Not sure why nobody I know has even heard of this series - is Showtime that much a non-player? Some light spoilers guesswork -- there's def gonna be a twist with Adam the mechanic, no? I'm thinking he's Travis's younger brother - they cut from him and younger Melanie Lynskey sharing pen and paper in the woods to the 'older them' at the hotel. Not sure the angle, tho. Also do we think we're dealing with an actual occult element or someone pretending and playing it up?

Slowly catching up with this (3 eps. in). The pilot didn't do much for me but the second episode (with the focus on Misty, my fave so far, if only because I'm a sucker for Ricci) won me over big time. Excited to watch the rest.

Super good ep. 8 ... sad that Laura Lee is (presumably) the first to go ... I liked her. Ricci, Lewis, and Cypress are hitting home runs in every damn scene. Should be an enthralling last couple of episodes ... one of the best debut seasons of a show in years? (At least that I've seen, which admittedly is little.) I'll probably gush more about the whole thing once it's over ... if it sticks the landing ... unlike Laura Lee

Ep7 was the first iffy ep, with a bunch of awkward writing, Ep8 better but treading water but still so good bc of the cast. Lynskey's "If this is an anniversary present, you're three months and my entire personality off." Cypress scared of herself. Ricci having a wicked blast. And have we mentioned how spot-on they are with some of the younger casting?
But my fav.....Juliette Lewis is just nailing every line, every look, every scene. This kinda substantial role was a long time coming for her - it's a perfect fit, this aged punk with battle scars, addictions, loneliness... she's at the edge of herself, so pissed off she can't afford to be afraid. It's a hilariously deadpan, sexy perf too.

I love how if you re-told this season from Jeff's perspective it's basically just a Coen Brothers movie. "I can't believe you actually thought I was going to book club" - hardest I've laughed at a line in a while Prediction for the finale ... They're totally gonna eat Adam, right?

Ep 9 - silliest episode yet. Jeff the blackmailer?? Wouldn't a third of that money be.....his own?? What a dummy. I'm hoping for a strong finale but they seem to be leaving a lot of meat on the bone.....

But he's still a dummy ... obviously.

But he's still a dummy ... obviously. Oops And I keep forgetting that Jeff is their former classmate too. He's the nicest worst criminal ever! As a "twist" ehhhhh, it wasted too much time - they paused the investigation and the woods occult stuff (I think possession would've been a better route than psychedelic drugs). Not as much mystery and excitement as they should have going into the finale. I keep thinking back to the showrunners saying they pitched it to SHO for five seasons.

It's a hilariously deadpan, sexy perf too. Spot on. This is something I was reflecting on today: three of the four adult leads (Lynskey, Ricci, Lewis) play their characters as if they were in a comedy, and it gives the show that layer of "what the fuck is going on here" kind of vibe that works so well in a show that is so mysterious, disturbing and sometimes outright violent. I think Yellowjackets may have the best casting for a tv show in... years?
I'm at episode 8 and I'm having such a good time with this season!

Hmmm ... finale quite a bit less thrilling than the penultimate. I think the genius of this show, and this first season, is that it's not afraid of layering in any new element, and it keeps jumping over new sharks episode after episode that you basically can't criticize it for that because that's kind of just the way it tells its story. It's sort of the best quality of the show, but that said, I found the ending twist here sort of cheap. Though I think maybe I'm underwhelmed because it's actually a bit unsurprising, like something else any other show would do ... but I'm curious to see where they take this in S2 and maybe I'll be more won over on it.
Love the season overall, obviously ... Some of the most masterful tonal control I've seen, even though it's a cliche that every TV show nowadays is part-comedy, part-drama, this is like the most extreme example, able to snap from overblown soap opera to absurd dark comedy and back again in the blink of an eye, without anything ever feeling out of place. Incredible performances as I've mentioned already, and absolutely masterful casting, I don't think I've ever seen more consistent/uncanny performances between teen and adult counterparts in ... anything. Awesome soundtrack too that plays the hits you want it to but also doesn't settle for just playing the hits ... and in a similar vein, one of the best opening credits theme/sequences I've ever seen!
