Anyone sort of mesmerized by this case? (AP) — Police in Florida said they are working with the FBI to find 23-year-old Brian Laundrie, whose girlfriend disappeared during a cross-country trek in a converted van.
North Port police said late Friday that Laundrie's parents told them that they haven't seen him since Tuesday. Police said they spoke with the family at the family's request.
Laundrie and his 22-year-old girlfriend, Gabrielle “Gabby” Petito, left in July on a journey that took them to national parks out West. She was reported missing on Sept. 11 by her family and is now the subject of a nationwide search joined by the FBI.

I hadn't been following until yesterday morning, my friends brought it up and then I kinda spent the day as sleuth. And yesterday was quite the day to start paying attention - the Tik Tok girl who picked up a hitchhiking Brian? and then Brian going missing???
Police cam footage was kinda surprising - she seemed extremely exhausted and off, when I assumed he'd be the one more...nuttier? If it turns out to be a self-defense "accident" I wonder how much that police incident in Moab will factor in. Side note - not only dug into the case elements, but found myself looking into the history of Moab - the former "uranium capital of the world" the govt milled after WW2 for nuclear arms. It's also where Thelma & Louis drove off the cliff, but anyway. There's also that same-time double homicide in Moab that the Utah detectives said they 'weren't ruling out a possible link' with Petito's disappearance. What??!
Another small coincidence- Petito posted about loving a true-crime Morbid Podcast and the week before she was gone, the podcast aired a series on the Hillside Strangler whose "obsession stemmed from the speculation that no one would truly miss young women if they suddenly disappeared." That plays into the less-likely theory some have that it's a stunt for celebrity.
But forget the dark fascination of it (the LI moms are definitely rapt) - it's utterly sad for her family, indeed.

Yeah, the case is very strange. I can't wrap my head around his behavior. If he's guilty, why wouldn't he at least fake being innocent and make up a story? If he's innocent (i.e. she ran off after an argument and fell in a ravine or something and he couldn't find her), why would you take off like this?

FoxNews reports that a drive by witness saw him slapping her which makes it look very suspicious that he did indeed kill her and ran.

A little odd tbh It's in my OP tbh: It's the fact that you're seeing a tragedy play out in real time...........and its nuances change in real time from when we first heard them........she had a "mental health episode"...........then you learn she was slapped................so just in that one way that forces you to place everything in a new context........and there's a lot like that here on top of that........also It's a mental health sympathy story mixed with online media behaviors - this is a case of someone who dies (in a way) because she wanted to blog - but her blog doesn't reveal, it obscured her and removed her from her family and specifically kept her with the person who (likely) killed her.........and because the story changes in real time............social media is all over the story and writing the details we don't know - where is he? Will he live? Will he get away? What happened the last time he was with her?. It's fascinating .......... |

Biuonno has done a heroic job on reporting this case - constantly over a million - sometimes way over a million people watching the livestream from Florida ......this guy is tireless.....FBI showed up with warrants today removed parents from the house with warrants for a new search, or kept them away while they executed the warrant......... put up "crime scene" tape so I guess the declaration of a homicide allows them to do something else...... yadda yadda

Biuonno has done a heroic job on reporting this case - constantly over a million - sometimes way over a million people watching the livestream from Florida ......this guy is tireless.....FBI showed up with warrants today removed parents from the house with warrants for a new search, or kept them away while they executed the warrant......... put up "crime scene" tape so I guess the declaration of a homicide allows them to do something else...... yadda yadda Apparently searching the Reserve again today - right now on the live stream (really, again?!?) ..........so somebody spotted him or told them something that the FBI "believes" or ths PoS is already alligator food This is what I said the other day - this case is a tragedy that unfolds in real time.......... |

Federal arrest warrant (finally) issued so apparently they think he's alive right now at least:
The attorney for the Laundrie family, Steve Bertolino, issued a statement Thursday emphasizing the warrant "is related to activities occurring after the death of Gabby Petito and not related to her actual demise."
