Interesting. This makes it seem like at least part of the film will be in B/W. Yes, parts of it are going to be shot in B&W IMAX.

The Barbie poster is fan made in response to this one. Actually, Gerwig has confirmed that the Barbie poster is official and was created first. Nolan apparently called her to tell her he liked the Barbie poster so much that he wanted to use the same design for Oppenheimer.

I haven’t read that anywhere and though a fan posted they created it.

It was a good teaser, but I’m not feeling HYPE for it yet. I’ll be honest, Tenet had more of a hook for me (but then again, this could blow me away in a way that Tenet didn’t).

So Blunt is the first voice we hear in the teaser, RDJ is the last one, Oldman is the one who says “The force from which the sun draws its power has been loosed” (playing Truman)... not sure who’s speaking immediately after Blunt and Oldman though.
In the Nope thread, I mentioned how I wonder if the fact that Jordan Peele beat Nolan to the punch with Nope as the first horror film to have scenes shot with IMAX cameras (with Hoyte, no less) will inspire Nolan to do a horror film next. It seems inevitable that Nolan will tackle horror eventually, especially since he’s kind of flirted with it throughout his career... and with this Oppenheimer teaser having a kind of nightmarish tone to it, it really feels like he’s pushing more in that direction, so a straight horror definitely seems like a logical next step for him.
The sound design accompanying the flames sort of reminds me of TDKR teaser (specifically the shots of the buildings collapsing).

This article is from way back in March, but I’m just now discovering that one of the film’s producers, Charles Roven, pitched Nolan the idea of adapting the book American Prometheus in the first place. All this time I thought it was just Nolan becoming obsessed with Oppenheimer on his own after writing the scientist-who-regrets-building-a-weapon-that-can-destroy-the-world backstory in Tenet and namedropping Oppenheimer as an analogy in one of the conversations between John David Washington and Dimple Kapadia. I’m very curious when exactly Roven suggested the book to Nolan. If it was during the time he was finishing the script for Tenet, that makes me wonder how much that influenced/inspired some of Tenet’s plot elements, or if the parallels between some of Tenet’s plot elements and Oppenheimer are just coincidental and Roven suggested the book after Nolan had already completed Tenet’s script... which seems less likely to me. It’s also interesting that it was Roven and not Nolan himself who pitched the idea because this marks the first time since, what, TDK trilogy that Nolan decided to do a project because someone else approached him about it? All the movies he’s done since then have either been original projects, or, in the case of Interstellar, a project that he contacted the studio about to take over after another director dropped out. Since this is the first time Nolan has agreed to do a project that was pitched to him after becoming a big name in Hollywood and obtaining the power and freedom to explore any original ideas he has, it makes me wonder if this is a sign that his drawer of original ideas is getting lighter and if he might decide to adapt more of other people’s work in the future. Of course, he could also just be wanting to try something different for a change and might still have plenty of original ideas left in the drawer... but then again if he did have more original ideas that he was interested in making into films, part of me thinks he would still want to prioritize those over adapting a biography that a producer randomly suggested to him... even if he were passionate about the book. He’s already made several long-gestating original passion projects (Inception, Dunkirk, Tenet) and has now gotten those off his chest, so it does beg the question of how deep does his drawer of original ideas go? Personally, I wouldn’t mind if he starts adapting more stuff in the future (either books or other people’s screenplays) because it would be interesting to see him work with a different voice for a change. If at this point he’s already made movies out of most of the original ideas that he had been developing for a long time, it may take him longer to develop more original ideas, so, again, I wouldn’t mind seeing him adapt the work of others more from now on (Jonathan Nolan’s Hell and Gone script, for instance, or maybe a horror novel).

Pretty cool theater standee... seems kind of early to have a big display like this already (a whole year out from release), but I suppose that draws more attention to the countdown feature.
