Cillian is my dude, so yeah on that. WB fumbled the bag if Nolan leaves. Billions down the drain. Cast Leo in a good part, as he's done with Flower Moon.

I was hoping for a thriller or a character drama, but doing a historical prestige drama like late career Spielberg would be an interesting move too. Anything but another action movie.

Is Cillian Murphy playing Oppenheimer or he's doing another supporting role and another actor will be the lead??
I'm ok with both scenarios, but if it's the latter option i'd like to see a reunion between Nolan and DiCaprio, or Bale.

Had a feeling he would swerve from mindbending sci-fi territory for his next project. Wasn't expecting another WWII-set film so soon after Dunkirk, though this will obviously deal with a much different perspective, so I'm still intrigued and am very curious to see how he'll approach the subject matter. Part of the backstory of Tenet's time-reversing super-weapon involved a scientist who realized the potential consequences of creating such a powerful device and wanted to keep it from falling into the wrong hands, so I can see how Nolan would continue to be interested in exploring the moral responsibility of human knowledge and creation.
Nolan actually talks about it in The Nolan Variations:
If the film covers any of the Japanese perspective, maybe we'll get a Ken Watanabe reunion?

Glad it's not sci-fi. I wasn't hoping for another WW2 flick from him soon but this is a fascinating subject. Bring it on.

Doesn't appear to be a lot of existing non-documentary films that focus specifically on Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project. The biggest one seems to be Fat Man and Little Boy (1989) starring Paul Newman (with Dwight Schultz as Oppenheimer), but it's not that well-reviewed...
There's also The Beginning or the End (1947), which only has 592 votes on IMDb. Anyone seen either of these?
Sam Waterston plays Oppenheimer in a biographical TV miniseries from 1980 (334 votes on IMDb), and there was a TV series based on the work at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project called Manhattan that ran from 2014 to 2016, but most of the characters are apparently fictional...

Actually in those last weeks I was searching eagerly if there are any news for Nolans next project as this, if he would stayed on his rhythm, would be the usual time where finally first news dropped.
Et voila... !!
As with some others I'm a bit surprised he comes back to World War II so quickly, but well this is an interesting topic and it's full of interesting sub-stories and -topics, so maybe not that surprising. And obviously it's a whole different angle.
Not exactly the topic I was hoping for, but Nolan surely can make a great film out of it.

linkGiven the type of film it seems to be, I wonder if this might be ready in time for a fall 2022 release (possibly November like Interstellar). He managed to make Dunkirk into a summer blockbuster, but this sounds much less "summer friendly" than that was. I read a great comment somewhere mentioning how this sounds like it could be an interesting complement to Dunkirk in that it would be sort of its thematic inverse - Dunkirk was about victory in the face of defeat whereas this would be about moral failure in the face of victory (also a thematic point in TDK of course). The idea of the moral responsibility of human knowledge and creation also seems to continue Nolan's technophobic streak in his films. I can see this being his own Chernobyl.... leaning into that same sense of sickening dread and impending destruction. If he goes for another one-word title, I think Trinity would be pretty dope.

I would love it if it were called Trinity.
I've actually thought that the story of the Demon Core would make a fantastic film. It was kind of touched on with Fat Man & Little Boy, but I think you could make the real story into a ticking time-bomb thriller and even overlay it with proper horror movie tones. The Demon Core could have the same impact as the shark in Jaws with the right atmosphere.

It's more likely to be a 2023 release.

Warner Bros. must be in shambles right now. They are whiny bitches at that moment. They knew he was going to be pissed, if not then they need better executives. Nolan has an I'm not fucking around attitude and they should have recognized that from the get-go. You don't fuck with someone who has their own cult, can get any actor he wants and produce damn near billion dollar original concept movies.
