I've been getting fucked up all Labor Day weekend and streamed Drake's new album on Spotify (Certified Lover Boy) and I am baffled at all the love this corny rapper gets. He is currently the most popular hip hop artist in the world and its laughable to me. One of his songs on his new album is called "Way 2 Sexy" featuring Future and its flat out AWFUL/cringeworthy as hell. I guess I'll never understand the appeal of this teen actor turned rapper.

Not a big hip hop fan these days - I dig the 90s for that music - so Drake isn't something on my radar in 2021.
But I will say when I think of him I think of "The Story of Adidon" diss which is the one song that really caught my attention - not only a diss on him to rival Jay's The Takeover and Nas Ether (or pick your favorite) but it's one of the few genuinely subversive pieces of Art in recent times to be genuinely shocking:
It literally acted like journalism it broke a story first - before CNN or Facebook or whatever - it BROKE news on him - it was was an up to the minute takedown at a level where the guy that it's about couldn't stop it..........couldn't respond to it ......couldn't lie about it........couldn't even pay his publicity people to spin it........he literally (to me) got destroyed, and exposed.........and he couldn't say anything back........
Now of course life goes on and he's still big and rich ........but the work about him means more to me personally than his own work does ....

From Take Care to If You're Reading This It's Too Late I would say Drake was one of the best in the game. During that time, he was sonically varied, experimenting with different flows and inflections, and genuinely insightful introspection. Then Views came out and was a giant turd. Nothing thematically interesting, surface-level navel gazing (you can only whine so much about nothing), and a hilariously bad Jamaican accent. I hoped at the time it would be an anomaly but it turned out to be Drake turning a new leaf - Scorpion was more of the same and the few tracks I've heard off Certified Lover Boy fail to impress. I've heard enough of him whine about women under the guise of respectability politics, or how he feels alone in the industry because of his success. Enough of him make music catering to the tastes of the young girls whose DMs he's trying to slide into. I'm over it.

I’ve never been a fan of him.
Based on what my friends have been saying as well as the general public reviews, take care to if you’re reading this too late was his peak timeline, at least based on quality. He actually had something to say and prove during those years and the passion cut through the music. Now, with Scorpion, CLB, More Life, and Views to a lesser degree, its almost like he knows he can put out anything without trying and do 500k+ sales easily.
I also think it’s a bad look for him to come after Kanye and call him burnt out, only to then put out an album a week later and have it not be nearly as well received. Sure it did more sales, but I feel like the last few albums/mixtapes drake has put out won’t be timeless, and he will start getting lost in the 🐐 conversation if he keeps putting out these projects that don’t have much passion behind them.

Big fan. CLB is his weakest album, but N 2 Deep, Fountains, and a couple of other tracks are quite good and superior to everything on Donda. He doesn't challenge himself enough, but he delivers more often than not.

How much of Drake have you actually listened to? His career is quite eclectic, song-wise. I almost don't believe you can be a fan of music and not be impressed by some micro-era of Drake's career.

Unfortunately I've listened to all his albums lol (I don't own any of them but some of my buddies are big fans of Drake so when I am over at one of their places they'll sometimes be bumping a lot of Drake songs or songs he's featured on and I just endure it haha) I totally understand that I'm in the minority with my opinion of Drake (his new album shattered Spotify streaming records on the 1st day of its release. So I gotta tip my hat to him I guess. I do think he's been good on some features and I can put up with listening to him in smaller doses but not an entire album. He's legit good in this Travis Scott track though. Song goes hard as hell & the video is cool too.

Can't stand him. Can't stand his voice. Can't stand that every time someone turns on the radio, I hear a "rapper" sounding like him. He has impressive longevity, I'll give him that. But if he had been around in the mid to late 90s era I experienced, for example, I think we would have kicked this dork to the curb. And lol at the throwback picture choice.

And I wonder what legendary rappers like 2pac or Biggie would think of Drake's music if they were still alive today.

Btw, how does Drake top Kanye for everything Donda-related?.......... on Pitchfork (6.6 to 6.0 so neither is great) and Metacritic 61 to 53? I know I get it - people in the know well they know what's up .......but Kanye must hate this dude ....this is the reason pacinoyes sticks with obscure Power-Pop bands these days people Rolling Stone notes the numbers that DONDA put up in a full week in America were lapped by CLB in just three days, according to Alpha Data. At that moment, CLB was sitting at 430 million streams, while DONDA was approaching 423 million.

Oh honeys, I suppose if I had to sleep with him... like for the global cure for Covid or something... I suppose. He does have a net worth of around $180 million, so I suppose I could save the World.

The second day streams of Donda were more than CLB though, so that’s an interesting thing to keep an eye on. The Donda reviews have been severely hampered by the controversy that surrounded the last listening party (incorporating Dababy and Manson in Jail Pt 2). I mean look at the independent review. That review alone puts Donda underneath CLB on metacritic. That stunt alone makes me think Kanye could care less how the album is received by critics. Also the user reviews are much higher for Donda than CLB, so Drake didn’t top him on that. I do think there’s some jealousy on both sides though.

Drake tops The Beatles - this doofus said dismissively "they didn't even make the best album called "Let It Be" ......... j/k ..........but that would have been funny and ..........absolutely true.
Drake has officially broken The Beatles' Billboard Hot 100 record, which they held for 55 years.
The Canadian rapper now has more songs on the top five hits in Hot 100 history than any other artist thanks to his recent collaboration with DJ Khaled and Lil Baby on the hit "Staying Alive." The song debuted at No. 5 on the latest, Aug. 20-dated chart, per Billboard.
Drake broke his 29-song tie, now 30, with The Beatles. The British rock band last charted with their 1970 hit "The Long and Winding Road/For You Blue," according to Billboard Monday.
"Ok I broke my records for the month," Drake wrote on Instagram Monday acknowledging the milestone. On his Instagram story, Drake posted a photo of a plate that read: "Just another celebration."

Look, I know that not all music is for everyone and while I like some hip hop, the more popular modern stuff doesn't do it for me, but Drake's music especially has never made me feel anything other than apathy. Plus the "close friendship" with an underage Millie Bobby Brown (who maybe was a kid just overhyping their acquaintance) will always make me look at him differently.

I haven't listened to any rap after 2000. Well.... I heard some Jay Z, Dre, and Eminem on the radio but I don't think I listened to any actual full album after Marshall Mathers LP which was my anthem at 13.
Guess you can say I lost interest in rap. I know nothing of his music. The only thing I see of Drake is Jimmy Brooks...... whatever it takes..... I know I can make it thru. Aka his name is Aubrey Graham.
