I hope all the people who collaborated with us (and their families) will be evacuated fast. We can't leave them in the talibans ' hands.

Who would've thought it'd be so easy to just take over a sovereign government. This whole thing is a mess but the isolationist in me kind of comes out when situations like this happen. If the choices are to retain a military presence in Afghanistan forever or let the Taliban take over... I don't know that leaving is such a bad choice strategically. There are alternatives I'm sure I'm not aware of and this whole discourse over U.S. engagement in ME is something I've always been ignorant about, but we've already spent so much money and resources into this damn country and they can't even protect their capital (security forces throughout the city were abandoning their posts which is why Taliban could just walk right in). Was it just to keep the Taliban out of power? Because the Taliban's options diplomatically and economically are going to be limited either way. If the idea is keep them out of power because of their human rights abuses... well, we trade with countries that regularly abuse human rights and last time I checked we still haven't invaded North Korea to free political prisoners. We can't be the world police. We can't even police ourselves.
(btw liberals who want to increase social spending by decreasing military -- this is what that looks like and we have to be OK with that)
Obviously this is going to look bad for Biden even though Trump started the process. Trump handed Biden a hot potato and there's no accounting for logic or consistency in these divided times so the same people who praised Trump for wanting to withdraw from Afghanistan are going to be the same people who'll say Biden betrayed that country. It is what it is and Biden's gonna have to deal with the fallout. But this is pretty clear: between Delta variant, inflation fears and now Afghanistan, dems might be staring down the barrel of a disastrous midterms even w/o redistricting.

We've occupied Afghanistan for the better part of 20 years and have fuck-all to show for it. We went in, killed a bunch of people, and then I guess just put our feet up like it was a game of capture the flag. We knew nothing of the culture, showed no interest in learning so we could adequately build anything there, and had no actionable goals or exit strategy to speak of. For 20 fucking years.

I think what people tend to forget is that there isn't an unified Afghan identity, which is why democracy there is so fragile. Why would someone lay down their life to fight for the concept of a nation which means nothing to them? In rural Afghanistan, people are more loyal to their local tribe than they are to someone else living in Kabul. India gaining its independence was a good thing, but obviously its partition was disastrously handled. Likewise, it's a relief troops are finally leaving a conflict they really shouldn't have entangled themselves in as such in the first place, however the exit strategy itself has been an ill-conceived mess, proving everyone's worst fears true and the lack of transparency from the Biden administration about the situation, as well as the media's failure in their reporting to hold the Bush administration accountable for intervening in Afghanistan without a long-term plan, makes this feel like America's "Suez moment".

Meanwhile, the chief of talibans is speaking from his Twitter account. The democratically elected former president Trump has a permanent ban on Twitter btw.

Taliban sweep into Afghan capital after government collapses
The Taliban swept into Afghanistanโs capital Sunday after the government collapsed and the embattled president joined an exodus of his fellow citizens and foreigners, signaling the end of a costly two-decade U.S. campaign to remake the country.
Heavily armed Taliban fighters fanned out across the capital, and several entered Kabulโs abandoned presidential palace. Suhail Shaheen, a Taliban spokesman and negotiator, told The Associated Press that the militants would hold talks in the coming days aimed at forming an โopen, inclusive Islamic government.โ
Earlier, a Taliban official said the group would announce from the palace the restoration of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the formal name of the country under Taliban rule before the militants were ousted by U.S.-led forces in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, which were orchestrated by al-Qaida while it was being sheltered by the Taliban. But that plan appeared to be on hold.
Kabul was gripped by panic. Helicopters raced overhead throughout the day to evacuate personnel from the U.S. Embassy. Smoke rose near the compound as staff destroyed important documents, and the American flag was lowered. Several other Western missions also prepared to pull their people out.
apnews.com/article/afghanistan-taliban-kabul-bagram-e1ed33fe0c665ee67ba132c51b8e32a5This is all the Bush administration's fault and its infuriating to think about how many lives were lost. This is a pretty good write up that summarizes what a failure the GW Bush administration was. www.strategic-culture.org/news/2021/05/25/afghanistan-george-bush-first-disastrous-war/I don't even know how Bush can sleep well at night. What an absolute POS.

President Biden will address the nation on Monday as more U.S. forces are on their way to Afghanistan to help with the evacuation of American personnel and allies.
It will be the first time Biden has spoken publicly since the Taliban moved into Kabul, Afghanistan's capital.
The president, who has been following the crisis overseas from Camp David, is returning to the White House on Monday afternoon. He is planning to address the public from the East Room at 3:45 p.m.www.npr.org/2021/08/16/1028086877/biden-is-returning-to-the-white-house-to-give-an-address-on-afghanistan

I hope the talibans recognize the 2.340 different fluid genres. as Joe Biden Kabul Administration. Thar reminds me when the Byzantine Empire discussed the Angels Sex while the Ottomans tried and finally suceed to conquer Constantinople. This is the Downfall of the American Empire.-

I guess that these there are the Taliban's Covid Masks. Seriously that's what America vote, several brainless, corrupt and inept polititians, supported by hollywood, the big techs, the media and several people here.- Women, Children, LGTBQ+ and foreign lives matter in Afganistan, and the right to use what they want, and express their opinion too.-
