I recently named it as my single favorite films of the 2010s, so you can guess how I feel about it. Curious to get your thoughts. I think it has aged so incredibly well. pacinoyes - Especially curious to see if you feel that Visconti laid the groundwork here - the entire film feels like an ode to him, in my mind.

I think I rated this a 7 / 10 but it could use a re-watch tbh:
.........it's a ravishing film and he takes a lot on camera setup from Visconti too - I remember thinking look how he frames these characters and then zooms in and out like they are photo objects with a changing picture frame. They are shot in every way - extreme closeups, handhelds the beauty in the story is in their photogenic faces
It's the kind of movie that even if the narrative doesn't move you the technique will ......I think he takes from Bertolucci too who would often do things like setting up a static initial shot and then "removing" the static entirely with what happened 2 or 3 shots later

I'm a fan. I don't know why Call Me By Your Name made "a bigger splash", as I found CMBYN rather tepid and I Am Love quite swoon-worthy. Tilda is amazing in it, and what she's doing with the multiple languages is astonishing.

This is the point where Tilda Swinton established herself as the premiere contemporary female actor, kicking Blanchett's ass in the process.
