Mostly known more as being a journeymen, but the dude was involved with some of the most iconic and more successful movies of the 70's, 80',s and 90's, that helped define many peoples childhood. The Omen, Superman, The Lethal Weapon Series, The Goonies, Scrooged etc... Respect and RIP to one of the greats!

He made too many classics to be as low key a name as he sort of ended up being, but man, his Superman is bigger than God, and to me still the standard. Just the opening credits alone dwarf everything else. Reeve's casting. GENIUS. Letting Margot Kidder loose in that role. BRILLIANT. The Hackman-Beatty double team. LEGENDARY!

An absolute legend. One of the greatest craftsmen filmmakers in Hollywood 's history. Some pretentious assholes may pooh-pooh that he wasn't necessarily an auteur, but when you've fucking made Superman, Lethal Weapon, The Omen and The Goonies, you've made the kind of mark on film history that some so-called auteurs can only dream of.
RIP.

Damn, for a while I forgot he was still living. I have a fondness for the Reeves Superman films and The Goonies, and I still need to check out Lethal Weapon. Rest in peace.

R.I.P. He directed too many classics to be forgotten. He has done some great tv work as well, directing the iconic Nightmare at 20,000 Feet episode from the original Twilight Zone.

This man made some incredibly fun and entertaining films, which is ultimately what I want from film. I can dig a po-faced drama and a little bit of pretension now and then can be enjoyable, but nothing for me can compete with a fun movie.
Donner was one of the best for fun. The man gave me The Goonies after all, a film which is cemented as one of my three or so favourites off all time. What the hell...I'll call it my favourite in his honour.
Thanks for the legacy Mr. Donner

Great video of Richard Donner with his Superman cast And a lot of tributes: Donner in general just seemed like the best director to work with. Often on time, very professional, and rarely got into a fit over something, especially inconsequently. Kevin Feige had a pretty great tribute too, especially as somebody who got his start working for the man as an intern, and his producer wife.

Only six months ago he said he was moving forward with Lethal Weapon 5....I would've watched, for sure.
He made a lot of memorable movies. I never minded when he went a little goofy with it (Lethal Weapon 3, Maverick) altho he could be quite serious, like the underrated Inside Moves, or of course The Omen - that followed by Superman are not only impressively done within three years, but they have some astonishingly inventive practical fx. His tv career is also remarkable, look at all those shows he worked on. He did the most famous Twilight Zone ep! I like his Sixth Sense ep The House That Cried Murder where there are some pre-De Palma set pieces. He was also one of the main creative producers behind every ep of Tales from the Crypt.....
RIP
