This time we pick if we think an actor or actress will exceed a certain Oscar nominations plateau, fall short or hit it exactly........given their age, how close they are and their upcoming / expected filmography. This is acting only, not producing/directing etc. Every actor / actress is in a different position so will have their own Over / Under target - just for fun, there's no way of "knowing" this of course........ Today a board favorite: Willem Dafoe : Age: 66 (will turn 66 on July 22). Poll will stay open for 24 hours.
Will he get to 6 nominations - he currently has 4? Vote and comment below.........I purposely set Dafoe low a bit - he is older and a lot of his work misses because he is so risk taking in difficult films .......I think what may matter to him is if the next time he's nominated if he actually wins........and like I always say he is arguably THE best actor in the whole 1980s class - not the biggest star but literally the single best actor of anybody in this age group to some.

I think six is quite possible for him given there is obviously a strong vein of love for him in the academy, given his last three nominations came from being either the sole nomination, or close to the sole nomination, for his film.

I concur with Mr. Snrub. Six should be an easy get. Dafoe is an eclectic and bizarre actor but the last two nominations (hell, his last three) have been for bizarre projects that should not have garnered any Academy attention, and yet they did. Even his Van Gogh project is still not quite Oscar bait in its presentation. I fully expect him to hit six, and probably more, and I think he'll eventually win because he is very well-liked and respected.

He's nearing 70 years old. I wonder if he'll keep going like this in these next 5-7 years. He's not getting any younger, and it's extremely rare (if not unique) for actors to keep getting great roles in their 70s.

Supporting Actor is the category where you see older actors succeed, and wouldn't you know it, that's where Dafoe tends to flourish. The man rarely gets leading roles anyway. Dafoe is far more youthful than his age would imply; he's also an immense workhorse who can knock out 3-4 films a year like it's nothing.

Exactly what stephen said. He's physically very healthy and younger looking, which might help him. In "Togo" he was supposed to be 15 years younger or something than his actual age and in "At Eternity's Gate", he played a man who died when he was 37.
For a man who's so obviously loved by auteurs and is willing to make all kinds of movies, I doubt he'll have a problem with finding great roles in the future. He also mentioned more than once that he keeps getting more passionate about his craft all the time which shows that he's always in hunt and search for interesting projects where he can challenge himself.

Yes, If I'm not mistaken that back to back duo - Florida Project / At Eternity's Gate as a sole nominee over the age of 60 ........which was unprecedented afaik......astonishing feat ..... a major flex of his peers respect for him

I went with exactly 6. He’s definitely in great shape, and very loved right now, but who knows when another nomination drought might happen. I think he’ll finally win and then get one more nomination, or be nominated twice more and finally win on the second nomination.

I guess he'll get to five. Soon enough but that's it. He may have gotten two nods on the last four years but he's already old enough to win two or three more (and most likely in supporting roles).

I think it's very possible he gets it and I think he'll win on one of those too.

Exceed 6. I think he'll get another nom if not this year then next. And I can't see him getting only one more after that... He does at least 4 movies a year, often with hot filmmakers, and often supporting which makes it easier for him to sneak into lineup. Also from interviews he seems slightly against doing any tv or series work so for now I don't see that getting in the way.

Lighthouse was *almost* his 5th. Six should be very doable for him. He's still super active and still hugely respected.

Still can't believe they went with Hopkins instead of Song Kang-Ho or Dafoe
