Hello MAR members! I've recently finished my latest screenplay and am eager to jump head-first into another fun silly fan project. There are two ideas swimming around in my head and I'm having trouble deciding which of these I want to commit to. Just thought I'd test the synopses on the board and see which of these two premises sounds more interesting to you all:
Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 in THE COST OF LIVING
Infamous MI6 super-spy James Bond has made a living out of toppling powerful regimes, decimating shadowy criminal organizations, and foiling fiendish doomsday plots. But our heroic agent extraordinaire has finally met his match... Enter genius American tech giant, media icon, and wealthiest-man-on-Earth Hideo Eloi. Smarter than Gates, richer than Bezos, flashier than Musk, and infinitely more powerful than the President of the United States, this mysterious, eccentric CEO of ELOI Industries has become infatuated with the legendary exploits of 007. Bond is swiftly kidnapped and imprisoned within Eloi's secret lair, the exotic Id Island, where the wealthiest and most depraved on the planet congregate to indulge in their darkest desires. Alone and abandoned by both the British and American governments, it is on Id Island where James Bond must survive a thrilling tournament to the death as he's hunted by Earth's fiercest assassins, all for the live-televised amusement of fanboy Hideo Eloi and his throng of elite spectators. The island premises have been lovingly remodeled to resemble locations from Bond's most famous previous missions, and the assassins all happen to be henchmen from the spy's storied past... Red Grant, Oddjob, Baron Samedi, Jaws, Xenia Onatopp, and Mr. Hinx, each one relentless in determination to earn the honor of taking 007 down. Outmatched, out-gunned (well, until the Moonraker laser makes an appearance), and even outwitted by evil genius Eloi, Bond is finally out of fighting options. Hideo even challenges him point-blank: "Tell me, James, how do you intend to stop a supervillain who has already succeeded in taking over the world? I have no doomsday plot, no evil scheme. Can't you see, Mr. Bond? I've already won."
But the game is not over yet, and there exists a wild-card neither Bond nor Eloi could have ever foreseen popping up in the deck. Queen and Country may have sacrificed 007, but that doesn't mean Ms. Moneypenny has to give up so easily...
STAR WARS: EPISODE IX - THE EMPIRE FALLS
Five years have passed since the events of The Last Jedi. General Leia Organa has perished in battle, leaving the Resistance leaderless and scattered. The First Order reigns with an iron fist across all known star systems. The war is over.
Yet things aren't always as they seem. Despite the First Order's victory, not all of the richest and most powerful are pleased. The tyrannical Supreme Leader Kylo Ren rules over his new Empire with maniacal brutality, alienating and worrying the wealthy war profiteers of Canto Bight. These never-ending "star wars" have been very good for business, and Ren's cruel reign is destabilizing all economic systems across the galaxy. Amongst this growing tension between military and economic powers, a spark of hope has ignited within the common folk: from the slums of Mos Eisley to the skies of Cloud City, mysterious Force powers seem to be growing among the populace. The legend of Luke Skywalker is alive and well, only lacking a unifying goal. Many desperately await the re-emergence of Rey from Nowhere, the fabled "Last Jedi." But the young freedom fighter has reached a moral crisis in her spiritual training: how does one truly achieve balance in the Force? How can this never-ceasing cycle of binary violence ever reach its end? When she discovers the terrifying answer, it will take her on a journey unlike anything she could possibly imagine...
In this infinitely epic, radically revolutionary finale to the nine-episode Skywalker Saga, our heroes will traverse dangerous new worlds, revisit beloved old ones, and reckon with ancient revelations in the most desperate battle in the history of the galaxy. Light and Dark sides of the Force must finally align to redefine the centuries-old understandings of war and peace, chaos and order, good and evil, Jedi and Sith. For when an Empire falls, a galaxy lies shattered...
So those are my two ideas: a standalone Bond film that playfully homages previous adventures, or my take on what Rise of Skywalker should've been. So what say you, MAR? Does one of these sound more enticing than the other? I honestly don't know which one to do first.
